    Alfa 147 polished then C Quartz'd
This was done for a friend off another forum, hopefully doing his other alfa also soon [IMG]. Seems everything needs doing in one day these days, i hate these long days. It is however always a joy to work on alfas.
This was simply to have some life put back into it and some long term protection

    Car into wash bay
    [IMG]
Dirt traps and bodyshop marks on trim
    [IMG]
Wheels never cleaned to the back
    [IMG]
Whole car was pre sprayed with a mix of autofoam and surfex, dirt traps brushed out as well as all trim, grilles and exhausts. Washed with halfords value shampoo, then iron x'd, then tardis'd, rewashed and thoroughly rinsed
    [IMG]
    Leaving this
    [IMG]
Car then brought inside to be loosely dried with the air line then clayed
    [IMG]
    After half the bonnet
    [IMG]
    Then defect spotting, bird lime
    [IMG]
    Small dent
    [IMG]
    Lots of scratches like this
    [IMG]
    Lots of swirls
    [IMG]
    And under halide lamp
    [IMG]
    Then we took some readings
    [IMG]
Some high readings on the bonnet
    [IMG]
So i started there whilst kap took more comprenensive readings marking areas requiring extra work or thin areas, and taped up along the way
    [IMG]
The high readings were due to a very bad respray on the bonnet with some of the worst orange peel i have seen
    [IMG]
Kap tested the da on the door
    [IMG]
So i continued round the car with the rotary, whilst kap stuck with the da
    [IMG]
Then i quickly shot round with a 3m blue pad and p2 just cause i could [IMG]
Then the whole car was ipa'd twice and c quartz'd (c quartz curing)
    And removed
    [IMG]
Then tyres dressed with 3x miglior belle lustre
    [IMG]
Exhausts and grille polished and sealed with blackfires and fk1000
    [IMG]

And the obligatory outside reflection shots [IMG]

Many thanks go to dave and gary for use of the unit as always (even though i have to work it off [IMG]) and kap 01 for the big help [IMG]

Thanks for stopping buy, stay classy

Looks great, what kind of deal do you have worked out if you don't mind sharing? About use of the shop?
I'm looking around my area to rent a small shop but am having trouble.

Thanks for posting these jobs. Since Fiat/Alfa Romeo/Lancia have been absent from the North American market for decades I'm always curious to see what we're missing. How well do modern Alfas hold up long term? With the Fiat buyout of Chrysler the U.S. is supposed to get the new 4C, the replacement for the 159 and I believe the MiTo. The Alfa 8C and Fiat 500s are here now with the Abarth version of the 500 to arrive soon. If the Fiat group can resolve the fit and finish issues and longer term reliability problems (rust issues in particular) which helped to drive them out of the North American market I look forward to their return.

Thanks pal. Well we have exactly that, a deal. As we do this strictly for fun he won't take money from me, opting instead to save up the "favours" and then call them in when his own customers come in after having other work done. Suits us both as I get use of the vehicle lifts also. Having looked at a few places it's not the rent that is the killer it's the insurances. You want to store vehicles over night, insurance, use a lift, insurance, remove wheels, insurance, sell an after care pack, insurance. At least over here anyway. Sorry I can't be more help but wish you luck with your search

Lost highway, you are welcome. I am somewhat surprised that you have the 500 over there. It's popular over here due to it's looks and fan base in ever thought you would "get it" over there. The 8c is incredible

I'm a bit surprised myself. The new Mini has sold fairly well in North America and I think some people see the 500 as a cheaper alternative. Although gasoline/petrol is still cheap by European standards rising gas prices have apparently started to get Americans to reconsider cars like the Honda Jazz (the Fit here), the new Mini, the Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, etc. I think Fiat will be able to attract early adopter buyers to both Fiat and Alfa Romeo models. The larger question is whether or not they can maintain and build on that base. I want to see them succeed both to keep the Chrysler marque alive and to provide a less bland alternative to the legions of Japanese, American and Korean cars on our roads. Fiat got an incredible deal on the Chrysler assets but it is still a huge gamble for them.

You have the ford fiesta also? Wow! Well I personally couldn't bring myself to spend good money on a new fiat, which is ashamed given how pretty the 500 is, although alfa and fiat are sharing engines and bits with GM here, the diesels etc so it only going go help their rep. Good luck to them

    Great work.

I'm curious if you tried fixing the dried out trim (rain catcher). What products were used and do you have pics (I didn't see any)?

Is it the 2 strips on the roof (running front to back) to which you refer or at the base of the windscreen? If its the roof then interesting question. I can't be sure but suspect that these are rubber/plastic and should be un coated, but had been painted. This was coming off so we actually did nothing but wash and deacon it to reduce removal. If you mean the dull stained plastics see my other alfa thread it was done the same. Scrubbed with apc and mf cloths, then ipa'd then fed to both darken and protect. HTH
