Hey peoples its been a while since i had a real customer. This is a brand new 2009 G3xS with only 1,000 miles. It was oringinally booked for paint correction on the back bumper only (to remove hazing and swirls induced by a hack :(), but Mike the owner, (Great Guy:thumb:) agreed to have it washed and waxed as well. Excuse the lack of pictures I was on a bit of a schedule and Mike had to get to a meeting so I tried to get as much done in short time.

so the story with this car is its a brand new 09 G37 that got hit while being park. Owner took it to get buffed out, the hack that tried to fix the scratches threw compound on it and hit it with a rotary. made a mess and the haziness was bothering the customers eyes. He happened to find me on the g35 forums and scheduled an appointment to fix what the hack had ruined. On the phone we discussed the worry of it having the infamous self healing clearcoat. So i pulled out all my polishes and pads and got ready for the worst. well anyways what you see below is me fighting with the either rock hard or magic clear coat. enjoy

    Wash:
    Gilmour Foam Gun
    CG Maxi Suds
    Megs #62
    Sheepskin Wash Mitt
    Two Bucket Method
    WW MF Drying Towel

    Glass:
    CG Glass Cleaner

    Wheels:
    CG Grime Reaper
    CG Diablo
    Wheel Brush
    Tire Brush
    EZ Detail Brush
    303 Aerospace Protectant

    Paint Correction:
    PC 7424 XP
    4" LC Yellow Pad
    4" LC Orange Pad
    4" LC White Pad
    Menzerna Power Gloss
    Menzerna SIP
    Menzerna PO85rd
    IPA

    LSP:
CG EZ Cream Glaze on rear bumper
PoorBoy's World Natty's Red on enitre car

    Tools:
    Costco MF towels
    DD Uber MF Towels
    CG MF towels
    Sony Cyber Shot 7.2mp
    Nitrile Gloves

So for the next 5 pictures below we see swirling, hazing and holograms caused by improper compounding with a rotary and wool pad.

Picture below is after hitting the area with 85rd on a white pad. Didnt do anything to the swirls, fixed the hazing and holograms just a little. So I tried again...
Tried out my favorite combo, LC Orange pad with Menz SIP, better results but swirls not completely gone...

Second hit on the area and it looked alot better. except for the little hazing SIP left, so after hitting the problem spot with SIP twice (tried power gloss on yellow pad and the deeper scratches) then hitting the rest of the bumper with SIP/orange pad, i removed the hazing with PO85rd on a white pad. and these are the results...

-The hazy spots you see on the hood are not paint defects they are spots on the ceiling that have been patched-

Those are not holograms in the picture below. They are the reflection of the reflection of the sun on the cars paint, shining off onto the fence. (I think that made sense)

forgot to ask you ... how long did it take you?

I had to look at the pics again ... it looks so freakin' wet. Those g37xS are kinda rare ... most of the time they are either x's or s's, but not both.

Super job. What makes the g37xS different from the S? I guess the bumper didn't have sticky paint?

Well G37 is the name, x stands for All Wheel Drive, and S stands for sport, which is just a stiffer suspension and a couple accents on the interior. The sticky paint isn't on every new Infiniti, it's a problem where they wrapped the car for transport before the paint fully cured, so it's the factories fault and not the paint itself. It's actually kinda uncommon.

Great job Ev, that car looks so wet and sexy haha.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all new Infiniti's except the Suv's and M's have self healing paint which is referred to as sticky paint because it's tough to buff out. Has nothing to do with plastic wrap.

Yep this one is a beauty, around here its not to rare to find them id think. on some days i feel like i have deja vu when i see so many G's but yeh this one came out reallly wet lookin. This car was done on a bit of a time schedule because the owner Mike had to have a meeting for work at 12 so he arrived at 8:30 on the dot and i tried to hurry, it was about 11:20 and i was just finishing up the polishing so he told me if i didnt mind he could use my computer and do the meeting through there, and of course i didnt so this gave me extra time to wash the car and wax it. Mike left my house around 1pm that day. So 5 and half hours. Most of it was setting up and walking Mike through what i was doing so he could be comfortable

As Bobby said its the all wheel drive.

Thanks Bobby this is a beautiful car, only prob is that damn clear coat. It was soo hard, and even SIP was having a hard time taking the swirls out. I suspect its the self repairing clear, but maybe Infiniti made it harder???

Yes but i think what Bobby is referring to is the cure time for that speacial clear. Ive read (not sure its true) that after spraying the clear it needs a certain amount of time extra to cure so that it hardens to a point where we wont find it difficult to buff. Aparently some are wrapped in plastic soon afterwards and this makes this new clearcoat difficult to work with. Some refer to it as being almost like a gel instead of a solid coat.

    thanks buddy :thumb:

Great work, I actually know what you when through with this vehicle LOL, Nica and I did my car a few months back I also have a black 2009 G37X, all i can say is that it was fun. I like the reflection shots as well :D.

Darkstar is correct on the stiffer suspension, but it also has the following: 18 inch rims instead of 17, different front bumper, the interior has an 8 point adjustable sport seats, and sport pedals with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The paint is something else it has nothing to do with the way they ship the vehicles, all 2009+ infiniti vehicles have the new self healing clear coat, and according to Infiniti it will take 2 years for the clear coat to fully cured, meaning all new Infinitis have this hard ceramic like clear coat, that's why they claim if you put the vehicle under the sun or heat for a few hours, scratches and swirl marks will dissapear. Nica and I try to prove this theory when we did my car and were not succesful lol. Most people don't go for theXS because of the ugly rims, and the seats are not as confortable, they are a bit stiff, that was one of the reasons why i didn't go for the S, but they all have the same Engine and transmission.
