So as many of you know I was a victim of a hit and run accident in November. well after a long wait due to back ordered parts (way to go Mitsubishi) I finally got my car back yesterday. Body shop did an awesome job as far as I can tell and Mario the owner told me to bring it back to him should i have any problems. So anyways Inevitably there will be defects even in fresh new paint. One of the major parts of correction was on the trunk. During the past month I grew bored and decided to take the trunk lip spoiler and repaint it. While taking it off at the body shop one of the workers helped me take it off. to assist he used a metal spatula :shakehead: but I allowed it because he told me he was not letting it touch the paint, and from my angle at the time it looked to be true. Boy was I wrong. Deep deep scratches and one went down the primer :gasp: but it is an area that is covered by the lip so no worries. plus ive been meaning to practice wet sanding for a long time now.

along with polishing and the regular stuff, i had to remove the grille piece and repaint that to match the lip, and after that i had to rewire my HIDS and install the new DDM bulbs.

I ran out of time and only got to polish the trunk and the drivers side door, which was repainted and had some light holograms. I will be doing Part 2 of the Winter Prep soon since i have to let the paint gas out.

While waiting for things to dry, I moved to prepping the middle of the front bumper for vinyl wrapping. Found some light scratches and marring. nothing too serious. Menz SIP/orange pad followed up by 85rd on a black pad gave the right result.

And of course a hologram and hazing on my drivers side door. The detailer at the shop isnt horrible, but i think he should practice with the rotary a little more.

Finished up for the night it was 2am and i had to go into work at 8 so i forced myself to stop and continue another night.

Also no LSP was used as the paint on the Hood, Front Bumper, Side Fenders, and front doors are fresh. I hate playing the waiting game when it comes to my car :waiting:

A couple of comments...I too agree on the blacked out grille..big improvement. also, how long did you let the touch up dry before wet sanding and compounding? I am finding that when I go to compound, the heat is pulling the touch up out of the scratch. I have been using Langka more and more. Very nice job on your car. You can tell you're very proud of it.

    thanks man :thumb:

Thanks Richy, I am pretty proud of the car, its my first and I baby it as well as customize it to make it my own. For the wetanding it was my first time and i was pretty nervous but amazed at how easy it was. The touch up paint was applied and i let it dry for about an hour id say. it was dry to the touch and since the area was going to be covered up anyways i decided to be risky. Thinking back I should have let it dry for more time but i didnt have any real problems while sanding and polishing. Cover up most of the scratches and made the really deep one look like a normal RIDS
btw i used meguiars sand paper, 1st 1000, then 2000 and finished with 3000 before hiting it with Menz Power Gloss on a yellow pad On my PC7424xp, which may be y i didnt have a heating issue

is it over spray? how to remove it?

where did your car got so many scrathes? are they from the shop that repaint your car?

My car also got small accident last month, just came out this week ... its terrible shop ... the repaint part look so bad ... went back to them ... the result not improved at all ...

I washed my car today, I felt that the whole car paint surface & windows were really rough ... I also saw a tiny white spot all over the windshield, side windows as well ... I clayed, I still felt the rough so much ... is it overspray by the shop? it also happend on my 2 wheels, its so rough ... clayed 2 times, but still the same. ... May i know how to remove it?

My car also have some new scratches after came out from the repaint shop ... Is it the normal when came out from the repaint shop?

thats actually just dust from polishing haha. as far as removal of overpray on your car i would try a paint safe apc. I seem to remember someone, not sure who or where, soak large mf towels in a water and apc mixture then let it sit on the paint for a while. this along with an aggressive clay removed the overspray. and as a last resort compounding. if that doesn't do it wetsanding will be your answer. the shop that did my car used a special spray on protective film you can wash off later. The owner told me its more expensive than using a plastic tarp to cover parts of the car but its worth every penny. Also they do all their painting in a booth.

Must feel good to have your baby back!

What a bummer on the trunk, at least it came out nice... I'd be annoyed by that.
