I wasn't sure where to post this (or if I even should) but what the heck. I'm not sure what prompted me to try this as I've not seen this done before on any of the detailing forums. That doesn't mean it hasn't been tried but it was my own idea, good or bad. Earlier this year I got the idea to try using Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel as a trim restorer and checked the description for use and contents to make sure there shouldn't be any harmfull results. I didn't have a good candidate at the time to try it on. This week I did a pre winter detail, interior, wheels, wash and 476S wax for a neighbour. I did a full detail last spring but that was before this idea came to me. She has an 06 Honda Civic that is in great shape but the black trim at the bottom of the windshield is fading. This is the only location that is acting this way. Here is a pic of the faded piece. She was ok with me trying this little experiment by the way. I did a 50/50 of the piece using Black Onyx on the left side and 303 Protectant on the right. I know 303 doesn't really do much to restore faded black trim. I like it for non faded trim. I don't have Black Wow for a comparison either. I used a cotton cloth to spread very small amounts of Black Onyx on the trim and made sure it was well rubbed in. I let it sit for a minute and then with a clean cotton cloth wiped off any residual product although there wasn't really much to wipe off. Then Rubbed it over again with a mf cloth. The result was a nice dark colour and the surface wasn't sticky but rather was slippery to the touch and had a nice mat shine. Two days later nothing had changed. I told my neighbour that I wanted to monitor the results after a period of time had passed and would correct the faded side. Anyway, here is a pic of the piece with the right half having the Black Onyx and nothing on the right and a pic with Black Onyx and 303. The 303 was still a little blothy when I took the pic but that went away. So, am I certifiably crazy? What are your thoughts? I'd love to have someone else try this and see what they think. I honestly don't think it can do any harm as I wouldn't have tried it if I thought it would. And I would love to see a comparison between this and Black Wow if anyone has both products. Thanks, G Fire away. :fs: PS I should add that I don't like using the Black Onyx on tires. But it would be nice to find something I like to use it for at the price.
Nothing wrong with trying it on trim. I use that and the Wolfgang tire gel for my wheel wheels since they both sling bad on tires.
I'd like to help but none of my cars has a cowl like that. there all kinda tucked in. Nice try though G Maybe next time,,,
I think it should work just as well on a trim as Black WOW. COnsidering that it is much cheaper product it might be a nice alternative...Also wonder about Blackfire polycharged tire gel...
