Please bear with me, I have a noob question. I've just started down the compounding/paint correction road and I'm somewhat confused about products like DuPont Prep-Sol, ValuGuard New Car Prep, Hi Temp Prep Wash, etc. Are products like these really necessary either to inspect the surface in the process of compounding or to do a final clean, post-correction, before applying a LSP? Is 70%+ isopropyl alcohol in a 1:1 dilution in distilled water a completely adequate substitute? Where does Meguiar's Body Solvent fall among these products? I gather that Menzerna Top Inspection and Mequiar's M34 Final Inspection are much less aggressive cleaners. Are they still adequate for these applications? If so, are they more or less interchangeable? The vague Mequiar's product description sort of makes it sound like M34 might contain fillers or glossing agents.
Short version for the pros here: which among these do you use and where/when do you use it/them?

The products mentioned are all chemical paint cleaner that could be used for paint inspection after polishing / compounding

With the exception of DuPont PrepSol , yes

Where does Meguiar's Body Solvent fall among these products?

It's a chemical paint cleaner, I've never used this products so ???

I gather that Menzerna Top Inspection and Mequiar's M34 Final Inspection are much less aggressive cleaners. Are they still adequate for these applications?

    Yes

If so, are they more or less interchangeable?

    Comparable, yes

The vague Mequiar's product description sort of makes it sound like M34 might contain fillers or glossing agents.

As far as I’m aware Meguiar’s® M34 Final Inspection doesn’t contain fillers or glossing agents
