    Be real careful with this setup. I bought the Spot Buffs kit from Autogeek a few years ago and it came with an adapter/backing plate setup like this. I was polishing out a couple spots on my hood and the darn thing unscrewed. The adapter went right into my hood and straight through the paint to bare metal. You're much better off just buying a D/A backing plate.

    I too have wondered about this possibility. I can think of a couple possible workarounds:

    - Loctite on the threads
    - Use a lock washer between the machine and the adapter

    Still, I'm with MikeyC. I'd much rather see you use the correct backing plate than take the risk.

    thanks for the heads up guys. i just want to make sure i have an option if needed. I think i managed to get the cart before the horse. So if the horse doesn't show up for a while i want to make sure i dont have a cart sitting around wasting space ..

    horse = rotary
    cart = GlossIt Rotary BP (that is on my xmas list)

    I was told by Lake Country that the two pieces unscrewing during use were a physical impossibility due to the thread direction being opposite of what the spin direction of the PC is. So, in theory when the machine spins the backing plate it should tighten and not loosen. The dent & paint chip I put in the hood of my former car speaks differently though.

    I would think that the fact these are manufactured , says that there is a demand for them. Like anything of this nature. The instructions should be followed and the correct safrguards and a little common sense will give the correct results. Paul S

    I screwed the two pieces together as tight as could be and used the washer that came with the kit. I'm not sure what other safeguards could have been taken. I suppose manufacturing problems happen, but if you can buy a one piece backing plate why bother taking the risk?
