    Hi guys,

As a long story goes, I bought '09 Monaco Blue X5 back in January. Car spends most of its time in a garage and does not get driven much (its not a daily driver). I got to wash it only a couple of times before and last time I noticed a lot of swirls starting to show up - I guess dealership covered the car with a glaze or something. I just finished washing the car the third time and as much as I don't want to do it, it's time to dig Porter Cable out and get to work - a lot of small/medium swirls and some halos and it all really stands out on metallic paint.

Now, I polished my other car a couple of years ago. It was my first (and given amount of time it took me, I kind of hoped it would be the last too) time doing any kind of paint correction... Back in the day, I bought Porter Cable, some pads from Detailers Domain and all three Adam's polishes (Swirl & Haze Remover, Fine Machine Polish and Machine Super Wax). They've been sitting on the shelve ever since... I wonder if these polishes have a predefined shelve life? Would it be safe to use them now?

And even if they are still good, maybe I would be better of buying something new? Any advise on what are currently the best medium and finishing polishes (I'd rather stay away from cutting compounds/pads)?

    Thank You!

Did you open them up and take a look? Are they watery? I would take a look at the product, if it looks like it is separated or chunky them I would run the bottle under hot water (not submerge) and then shake em up real good. Then let it sit for a bit and take a look at the consistency, if it looks good then give it a shot. The only way to tell is to use the products on a test spot or test vehicle.

If you're not happy with results, toss and get new stuff.

Thanks. I've been thinking about it and decided that it's probably better to just buy new compounds. They were good, but not the best products a couple of years ago; I'm sure there is something much easier to work with these days.

Off the shelf, get yourself some Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish from Meguiar's. They can be found at Walmart.
