a few quick questions on the flex

Ok so it seems there is a flex feaver. It seems like a good machine but have a few quetions

what if the backing plate fails does that mean the machine is done.? i dont think it would fail as i have never seen one but if im goin to have a polisher for a while i want to make sure it dosent fail

and the big one. Whats the point a flex if you can use a rotery? Does it break down polish faster? Is it that much safer? I, just trying o figure out the advantages of the flex

it saves you one step. I know that a lot of people out there don't polish with both the a rotary and a RO but I do. I imagine it is a lot much safer, but the most attractive feature for me is the fact that it can polish down a finish really well. Personally I am just speaking from experience with the Rona sander, but when you are able to work on a surface for an extra long time you get a clear finish. I think this is because of two things, the first being that you are full breaking down the polish. I seen a lot of detailer that don't break down a polish all the way, and even though it might come out swirl free, you are being robbed of clarity. You can get this clarity with a rotary, but it takes more time to learn, as well as you risk dry buffing. I am not going to hate on any detailers that only use rotary, but I just make it a rule of thumb PERSONALLY to polish the paint one more time with something that can warm up the paint, but is safe after using the rotary. With the rotary you can't really bet on 100% hologram free finishes. Most pro's won't. Just think about how PO'd you would be if you paid $500 for a detail, and you found that your roof had holograms. It would be horrible!

 

I agree with everything Zoran said. Also just a note I had talked to Aaron at Edge and they are in the process of creating an adapter to accomadate their Edge pads with the Flex. Like Zoran has said I think this thing is going to be big and you can tell by everyone trying to get in on it, ie AG and Edge. I asked Aaron to keep me updated on their progress as it would be nice to have another option with the Flex.

i sure didnt know you could change the backing plate, they is good news. That def makes it more attractive.

as for the edge system. not a big deal to me. I dont like the edge pads, I have had nothing but problems with them..

 

I don't want to start a war with anyone here...so I am going to duck after posting this comment.

The edge adapters can barely handle how much power/ torquing the PC has, how can one expect the Flex version to hold up? The PC is a toy compared to the flex. I cannot get over the fact that it has over 2 times more power. It will be interesting to see how they hold up if the product even hits the market.

 

I'm just saying if a company is already trying to find a way for the Flex, basically in it's infancy here in the US, to accomadate their pad system I think others will be wanting to get on board and develope other options for the Flex. If the popularity continues to grow you have to imagine that companies will be clamoring for a piece of the pie and an alternative backing plate/pad combo would be the perfect starting point.

 

That's why I think that a site like this will prove so helpful. I agree that just because everyone wants on the bandwagon does not mean it will be a beneficial leap onto the bandwagon. The exchange of info here is so good I don't think it would take long to prove or rather disprove which applications are useful. I really think though that aftermarkets wanting in just proves what you had been saying all along ... that this thing is the real deal and could/will take a huge chunk of the polisher pie so to speak.

 

AG just started carrying the Flex...

 

Rotary results, ease of use only a RO can provide. Finishes clean everytime with minimal effort.
