Just got my D200 not too long ago, and I am ITCHING to shoot. I haven't had a chance to go shoot cars yet, but this is what I've been keeping myself busy with. I'm in San Diego right now visiting my girlfriend, and we've been going around doing this... sort of haha. And I can't forget this awesome thing I saw too! :mounty:
Nice pictures! I especially like the one with the wind driven lawn ornaments. This came to mind whenI saw the Celica:
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I found an even better location for the beach pictures though! The Birch Aquarium has an overhead view of the beach. Here's a couple that I took today.
Wow Ben, those shots are really great! How long have you been shooting a DSLR? Your pictures say it has been a while, what lens are you shooting all of these with?
Don't do it! This is another incredibly expensive hobby. I've put all detailing supplies on halt until I run out because I want a lens so badly. I got my D200 and lens about a month ago. I've been out a lot lately learning my DSLR. I've been shooting in aperture priority, and I'm starting to learn everything in manual mode now. I'm loving this though! It's an 18-200mm f/3.8-5.6 I think. The body is a Nikon D200. It's not a great beginner camera because most of the controls are manual. I wouldn't say it takes that long to learn everything though.
Cool pictures :thumb: Photography is such an addicting hoby...it's just as bad as detailing but way, way more expensive :thumb:
I don't know man. You could start looking into some of the mega telephoto lenses, and it'd be just as bad. Some people also carry around two bodies. Full frame - walk around with something like 17-55mm Crop body (XTi,XSi,D80,D300) - 70-200mm All that gear is way more than I'm willing to spend on detailing or photography for a very long time. I do see myself eventually investing in a great lens though. However, I am quite satisfied with my detailing supplies the way they are. I've got about $1000 in detailing supplies total, and I can't see how anything would make me significantly better unless I improve my technique. A good 105mm macro lens though? I'd be willing to put in a lot of money to get it. Definitely! I'm having a blast photographing everything! My girlfriend is jealous of the pictures I'm able to generate now, and she uses one of them as her wallpaper. How flattering!
 I agree Specc, I'm already looking at another body and lenses...well lenses I have a list of lenses I'm after but all in due time. For now I'm taking photography lessons, first the skills/knowledge then the toys :thumb:
