I got this 1995 Trans Am to do last weekend. It looked pretty dirty when I got it but I thought that it would clean up well enough and with clay would be just fine..boy was I in for a surprise. It still looked dirty after I washed it. I broke out my most aggressive clay and started to go at it. After doing a small section, the clay was dirty as can be and it looked like tar on it. It was improving the paint however so I stayed at it..but it was taking a long, long time. I ended up taking 2.5 hours just claying it!:yikes: Finally after doing about two-thirds the car, I decided for shits and giggles to spray some DG 471 (bug and tar remover) on it while claying...VIOLA!! Did that ever make a difference! It really sped up the process and worked better than the clay alone. It was very hard on the clay however and basically ruined the piece I was working with. My point with all this rambling is that if you have one that has a lot of nasty, hard to get-rid-of tar: use the DG 471 with it. The Process: Wheels and barrels with SC Beyond Steel (took a lot of work..nasty brake dust) Wells with 303 Tires with ARO Foam entire car Wash 2 bucket method Clay as above SIP with green LCC , using rotary DG 501 with white LCC pad using rotary DG 601 by hand DG 105 by hand AW after curing time Wheels cleaned with XMT 360 followed by JS 109 Exhaust tips cleaned with Blue Magic Engine with 303(sorry, no pics) Exterior trim with Mothers back to black followed by DG531 Glass with IG Carpet mats with Folex and 303 Interior plastic with 303 Aerospace BEFORES: My Helper!! You have that paint looking awesome....Nice gloss on her....#471 and clay, a-law I just learn something new...Thanks for the tip.....
Asphalt..thanks. I used to drive those when my father was a GM dealer. A little bit harder to get in and out of now though:shead: Sparkie..thank you sir..I've got you and Al to thank for turning me onto DG in the 1st place!! Gary..thanks for that...and yes, I'm pretty lucky with my helper!
First great job on the car! :thumb: Second more or less just an FYI, I know Optimum has something coming out along the lines of what you did with the DG product. Its to be used with clay or one of the clay alternative sponges. Dr. G, possible clay replacement? - Optimum Forum
Richy ..the car looks great....another white paint brightened by 501...I have a 07 expedition to do next week and 501 is the product I will be using..I will not top it either..I want to see how long it goes into summer on its own...I see it every day so I can judge whats going on with it... You did a great job on the TA..the White is bright and Interior is spotless...A++ I bought a clay lube last year from a place on Georgia and the lube has a contaminant release agent..it works great...and does not break down the clay.... his site is very hard to navigate...but I bought all his Erazor clay last year and he sent me some lube to try out with it...worked great and I grabbed more... his shipping was a bit expensive but he said he was working on better ways to ship...so may have changed.... his new site really sucks bad...lol....but has some good stuff...APC's are nice also Flynn's Detail Products - Automotive Waxes, Polishes and Detergents Al
Gemini..Thanks for that. I love how there are so many new products coming out! Al..thank you sir...as I said to Sparkie..it's due to you and him that I discovered DG and learned how to properly use their products. I just ordered from them yesterday and spoke with Bill..I tried to arrange a DB discount code but to no avail...yet...I'm still working on it:graduation:
Man how did I miss this one!!!! That is an awesome job as usual richy. As Al said the white is blingin' white and your interiors are top notch. So what was your process with using 501 with the rotary. I have been wanting to try this but haven't been sure what speed, how long to work, etc. to do. Any help you can give as always is greatly appreciated. Man that TA is looking incredible.
Wolf...man, as usual, you are too kind!! I used it with a white LCC pad at a speed of about 1000 to 1800 rpm until it was almost gone. It corrects and breaks down quite quickly..BIG difference than Menz, LOL. I used a blue Cookie Monster to remove.
