This car also belongs to someone I work with. It has had some paint work done to it, and the BIG challenge on this one was all the chips in the hood. The owner had asked me what to do, so I suggested that he fill them in with touch up paint so they could harden before I got my hands on it. Well, when it showed up, the hood had SO MANY spots from the touch up, it reminded me of a 13 year old boy in DIRE need of some benzoyl peroxide!! Zit city, baby! You can see the pic with the terry towel on the hood-look at all the paint on it! Otherwise, it was ok for its age. It gets stored in the winter, so it's pretty nice, although it did need correction. I used a wool pad for this one too. I used a combination of wet sanding and Langka for the touch up levelling. There is a learning curve to the Langka, and I was getting pretty good at it after a while. You gotta play with the pressure you use, though. This car, like the Infi G35, got DG 501 with a foam (gray in this case) pad after using the compound. I used my new X3 polish with wool, followed by it using foam (white). I like this stuff. The car also had recently been oil sprayed which was all over the paint too. To solve that, I foamed 1st and then applied the wash soap directly to the wash mitt for each panel...viola. The PDR guy came by on this one too. The headlights also got SIP with foam, DG plastic lens cleaner with foam too. very nice.. maybe you can do a write up or guide for the langka.. i've been interested on that product for a long time. thanks for the post.
hahahaha zit city :lol2: But I do see what you meant. Great turn around though...I like how you finished of the rims on this one, very nice :worship2: richy I can't help but drule over the house you got :druling: :druling: just love the brik look very nice :thud:
Richy, I seen it over at ag last night..she looks just as beautiful over here on DB..LOL...:applause:
Tonya..thanks..I got my inspiration from Carlos' write ups..I think it's helpful to elaborate on the process...especially when you do something a little different like following compounding with DG 501. Thanks jake..I read a post Motorcity had done at AG about it and ordered their video from Langka. There are 2 important things to make it work: enough time to harden (better measured in days than hours) and ease up on pressure after a bit. I found you're better to go at it a 2nd time than do too much pressure or time initially. Hope that helps. I do like the product...it's especially useful on thin paint and/or at edges. Thanks Carlos..I was hoping for a laugh at my zit city comment The rims were nice so they allowed me to take it to the next level. And thanks about the house..That's one of the things that appealed to us was the French corners (the stone inserts) with the brick. Thanks Sparkie..really appreciate you commenting on both! I agree with you..looks just as modern then as now. In that kind of shape, most people wouldn't know its age anyway. Al..thank you sir..I though you might be interested in the pad choice and product choice using 501 after compounding. Did it ever make the red jump. I'm glad I bought a few bottles. Ketil..thanks man..the owner was blown away by the hood.
Thanks Buddy..means a lot coming from you. BTW, I dug out my small remaining amount of Z2 last night when I was switching to my summer wheels/tires. I cleaned the barrels with DG wheel cleaner and then sealed them with the Z2. My bottle had been collecting dust for well over a year. Seeing your recent work got me inspired to use some again!
richy that is some fantastic work there. Of course I expected nothing less from you. Your details leave me in awe everytime with the things you can do to a car!
Thanks very much! Thanks Joe..I appreciate the comments. Thanks Dust..I was very proud of the hood. Wolf..you are so kind..I am very proud of this one, I have to admit. Rocket..thanks for that!
