This car was a new acquisition from a client of mine who had chased this particular car for a few years and through a couple of different owners before he was finally able to call it his. The previous owner had used it for a daily driver, so it had some issues. My client was taking it to a Porsche gathering at the end of this month, so he wanted it freshened up. Another note, this car had been repainted in base/clear, it was not the original paint. Process: Wash: Foam with Meguiar's Shampoo Plus mixed with Optimum Power Clean, then 2-bucket wash with Shampoo Plus Wheels, tires and wheel wells cleaned with Optimum Power Clean 3:1 Clay: Clay Magic Blue Compounded with M105/D300 on Meguiar's MF pads/Griot's Garage DA Polished with HD Polish on Green Buff and Shine pads/Tangerine Hydro-Tech pads Sealed with HD Poxy Tires dressed with AutoFinesse Gloss There was a lot of issues to clean up before I started the detail. White residue on trim, dried compound around all the seams and more on the taillights. The condition of the paint wasn't too bad, but it definitely needed some improvement. Afters Thanks for looking!
taking care of business on the finer details... nice job Mike! should've taken a pic of this car beside your blue mazda...hehe
Thank you Hamza, the color is actually a little deeper in person, the pics kind of washed it out. It's very close to Ford Grabber Blue or BMW Laguna Seca Blue. It really fits this car well. Thanks man! Thank you Martin, hope things are going well with you! I threw some AF Gloss on the tires, I absolutely love how that stuff looks.:headbang: Thanks Alex! I would have been embarrassed to do that, I haven't had a chance to wash my Mazda in weeks...:shakehead:
Beautiful work, thanks for posting it. That car is in amazing shape for a '76 that has been regularly driven. What did you use on the black exterior trim pieces?
Thank you. I did some digging around on 912registry and they list less than 10 912s in this color. It's listed as both Arrow Blue and Royal Blue. http://www.912registry.org/restore/rare912colors.htm Thank you very much Bob! I appreciate it. Thank you. It has been repainted at some point, but it's been pretty well taken care of by its previous owners. The black rubber trim was cleaned with Hi-Temp Prep Wash 1:1 and a toothbrush. In these pictures, it is without dressing.
FUCHS. Incredible job Mike. Definitely a unique feeling(and smell and sight) being able to rejuvenate cars from this period.
Thank you Mike. I guess you're a fan of Fuchs wheels? The owner told me they used to recommend Vaseline to care for them...weird. And now that you mention it, older cars really do have a different smell than newer ones. Probably just the materials used? Thanks, it's very close to Grabber Blue! Thank you Ken! Now can I convince you to change your name to 912Fanatic?
Fantastic work Mike! As I've come to expect, the work is beyond reproach. Beautiful job on a classic. A friend of mine who has given a helping hand on a few nice cars with me has a BIG thing for classic Porsches. Can't wait to show her this writeup, she'll love it.
It was worth a shot... Thanks Donald. Also, I appreciate your advice on that vinyl wrap. It's scheduled for middle of August, and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks Jeff! I've seen some of your teasers on FB lately, so I'm patiently waiting for some Italian goodness to drop on us!
Mike, wonderful quality work!! What did you use to remove the dried compound stuffed up in the cracks and seals? Thanks for the call Thursday too btw!
