Hey everyone just got my new 7424XP and i got a few 6.5" pads and realized that i needed a bigger counterweight :waiting: now my question is if i get a 6" counterweight can i leave it on when putting on a smaller backing plate on like say a 4" or do i have to change it each time? sorry if its a stupid question just dont want to run into any problems with the new machine. also what does everyone here do to clean their pads? any methods not involving expensive products? Thanks in advance
I know with the previous PC I never changed the counterweight regardless of the size of pads I used. I use Snappy Clean pad cleaner. If I apply a sealant, I use Dawn to clean the pads since Snappy is ineffective.
thanks thats good info. on the description for the 6" counter weight it says its to reduce vibrations on the PC so is this just bs?
I wouldn't say it's "bs" since I haven't tried it. However, with my experience with the prev. PC, the vibration didn't bother me enough to were I wanted to do something about it. I would suggest to try the machine out and see if it is needed. You should be fine without it.
These machines were originally designed as sander / polishers and the counter weight was designed to balance the centrifugal force of a single sheer of sandpaper / backing. For all intents and purposes, IMO, the counter weights have no real relevance when using a foam pad and its backing plate
I actually put that in my original response but then deleted it because I couldn't remember where i read that so I couldn't provide a link.. Didn't you just post this last week or so?
I have both weights for my PC. I interchanged them frequently with the 6.5" pads I was using trying to lessen the vibrations. Never worked. I simply couldn't feel a difference between the two counterweights.
