    Hey guys,

Does anyone know of a backing plate that is 4.5" to 5.25" for a rotary other than the imported 3M Perfect-it Backing plates?

    Thanks

I've purhcased a 5.25inch backing plate and I think it was a Lake Country backing plate...it yelow an it's all rubber, a bit flexible but just a bit....but I honestly can't remember if it was Lake Country or if it was 3M

Any who I know they exist, let me look through the links I have here and if I find it I'll post it here.

Thanks guys ... not sure how I missed that one :crasy: There surely aren't many BPs in this size. I guess the traditional rotary pad sizes have been 7+ inches so the demand for smaller BPs can't be that high. I have a bunch of the 5.5" low profile and CCS pads which I used with the UDM but they don't work well with a 3.75" or 6" BPs with the Makita. Thanks again.

Harbor Freight has a 5' rotary backplate. Not flexible.

The Meguiar's W64 backing plate is just a few mm larger than the 3M backing plate.

Thanks guys. It looks like Meg's calls the W64 as a 6.5" BP -- for 6.5" pads, where one may think the BP is 6.5" wide. Have you used either the 3M or the W64 with 5.5" pads?

I'm not sure I like the idea of an adapter on a machine. MikeyC had a horror story from using a PC with an adapter so it'll take a lot for me to use one ... sure it's a different animal with a rotary, but it's not worth the risk to me :thumb:.

4 3/4 plate works perfect with the 5.5 pads.

Well you know those pads from eBay that were 5-1/4"? I used those pads on my 3M BP and it worked out pretty nicely. Personally, it kind of irks me when my pads are much larger than my backing plates. Hence why I'm most likely going to be selling my Propel pads. They're just too big for my personal taste.
