So i couldn't take it any longer so i went out and washed the engines yesterday morning at a brisk 34 Degrees (wind chill 29). Lessons Learned: -The 1" round brush is great, but not an end all for engines (going to pick up an EZ Detail brush too) -Gallon jug pour spouts are 100% needed for new full bottles -When you fill the engine bay with 6.1 liters of fun it gets less dirty than only half filling the engine bay with 2.0 liter of fun. (the audi gets super dirty) Products / Tools: Adam's APC 1:4 Megs Hyper Dressing 1" round hair brush Tolco Foaming sprayers (not needed at all but wanted to try them) Shop Vac Process: Rinsed engine off with the "shower" setting on nozzle Adams APC on everything Let the APC work in for about 2 minutes then i got cold from standing still so it didn't have a lot of "rest" time before i started brushing everything Rinsed all the APC off Shop Vac to blow all the water off (keeping in mind that at 34 it wasn't completely dry) Megs Hyper Dressing on just about everything. Mostly the black stuff. Closed hood and let car run for 25 minutes. Riped away any left over puddles of HD. Here are some before during and afters. thanks for looking
Those engines bays looks stellar, and your process makes it look easy. If you could clarify your application of Meg's HD. After washing and drying the engine, all you did was spritzed the Meg's HD all over the engine bay, painted surfaces and the engine itself? After running the engine at idle for about 25 minutes, I assume that the heat in the engine bay let's the product spread and work it's magic into the crevices, etc... Then any remaining product was wiped up with a MF towel? I don't have the Meg's HD, but I have Optimum Opti-Bond in a spray bottle @ a 1:1 ratio as mixed with distilled water. I "assume" the the Opti-Bond would work in the same way? Thanks!
Nice work.... If it's any consolation I am a few miles away from you and was working on a vehicle as well - I just finished up this morning... Brrrrr...
i really do not hv the gut to clean engine ... its so nice & clean dude ... good good good ... two thumps up
yes if you look at the pic of the 6.1L you can see the white Hyper Dressing spritzed all over the engine . i did the same with the audi. I sprayed more where there was more plastic / black and less where there was paint. After running there was pools in certain areas. they were picked up with a MF cheapo Amazon towel I got the trick about running the engine from another thread. but either way it worked wonders. I think 1:1 with HD would be too shiny for me. Also i didn't over any bits when i washed them. I did pull my air filter from the 6.1L as it is open air. i also avoided spraying lots of water / product on the alternator and battery terminals. thanks all.
Guys, the engine compartment is designed to be exposed to the weather (except on certain exotics). When non detailers drive thru a carwash and get the upgraded wash they do an undercarriage spray which sprays high pressure water into the engine bay. Also in areas that have rain and or snow the compartment is constantly exposed to water, i.e. potholes filled with water, roads with standing water among others. The idea is to not "blast" water at the engine, just lightly spray to rinse off. One more thing....I have seen threads stating to wrap electrical components with aluminum foil. I would have to caution against this as aluminum is a conductor. Just my :2cents:
haha u guys with all these new cars are lucky The only way i can detail things on my El camino's engine bay is paint them or chrome em haha
