Customer contacted me awhile back and after clear bra and some other installs, the car was ready to be prepped properly. Initially the owner opted for a 1 step plus opti coat, but seeing how badly the paint looked, I ended up doing a 2 step detail, removing most imperfections. As you can see, this car gets driven in rural areas in Oregon (which means dirt roads) a lot and needed a durable coating pronto! _2091616.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr _2091617.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr _2091618.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr _2091619.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr Process Dawn foam bath #1, rinse = nothing Degreaser foam #1 = better Let it soak Wheels cleaned with degreaser and wheel woollies Rinse whole car Degreaser foam bath #2 Rinse Dawn foam bath #2 to aid washing Wash with dawn and 2 bucket method, grout sponge Rinse Clay towel with dawn solution Rinse Result _2091623.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr _2091620.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr _2091622.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr Once the car was inside I dried it, and spent some time drying the wheels. GG6 with MF pads and D300 to correct, followed by 205 and also used Perfect Finish. The rear bumper was very stubborn so I switched to HD Cut to level. On the paint, Cut was hazing up too much. I must have a bottle from the first batch. After D300 & 205 P2090004.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr And after Perfect Finish P2090010.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr Just one decent after shot - Ended up being a long day and not enough light in the garage at 11:00pm P2090020.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr However, the customer was kind enough to pull the car out the next morning for a few shots. Glass and wheels were also coated of course. License plates were coated as well. Very nice sir. Opticoat is a good winner for that one. Im gonna get my hands on some Menzerna FG400 soon, but im very intrigued at HD Uno Adv Cut and HD polish. That black trim in between the windows turned out VERY nice, was that Sonax Perfect finish?
Stunning work !!! As always !!! Your work is always great to look at - attention to Detail - very evident - This BImmer looks better than when it was delivered new ! Great, great, job Thomas ! I have Opti-Guard on my Jeep, and it really works ! Not as much dirt sticks to it, and if it doesn't get wet, it just has a very light layer of dust on it after weeks of not washing. I just went through the entire state of Oregon a few days ago and at the southern end in those mountain ranges, they like to spread this brown dirt stuff on the roads for snow and ice I am guessing. That stuff is really nasty, but if it precludes using salt, I am so for anything that does not include salt. Thanks for sharing that now perfectly Detailed Bimmer ! Dan F
another great job thomas. why do people make fun of our roads and weather. backroads in oregon have almost no police presence. sweet home awaits those who dare.
Thanks Dave! And I so agree with you! I love Oregon! What is not to love??? P2150023.jpg by savingspaces33, on Flickr
Thomas - I came through Portland during the evening rush hour, I was on I-5 the whole way.. Wow, what a mess, but got through it all safely. That is an absolutely stunning picture - thanks for sharing !' Dan F
Doesn't Seattle has much worse traffic? I know I-5 can get a bit backed up, but then again, I very seldom drive that route. Took that picture from Mt Angel. Thanks!
Thomas - YES - Seattle has way worse traffic, but it also has around 2 million people, so it is kind of crowded there. I try to absolutely avoid going into Seattle for anything even though there is a lot of good to experience and see there. I live in the suburbs almost 20 miles now, from downtown Seattle and it is way better of course, once you get farther away from any Downtown, right ? Dan F
