In the shop recently was a fantastic Porsche that had been victim of abuse at the hands of another detailer. Despite the owner's best intentions this car had fallen victim to a cheap hack job dragging the name of good detailers everywhere into the mud. As you will see, with just a few thousand miles on the clock, this car had the scars to prove its abuse and was brought in to restore the paint completely. This previous detailer had given the car a "no-charge extra" in the form of some nasty chemical etching prevalent on all of the horizontal panels. Setting to work right away, we eventually restored the finicky paint to a great shine without evidence of prior abuse. The car received: Full decontamination Convertible top degreased, then sealed Rims and Trim treated with Wolf's Paint corrected in multiple stages with multiple passes Two coats of sealant applied to paint, 12 hours apart Tires degreased then three coats of dressing applied Onto the pictures! Initial presentation, from 8' back, doesn't look too bad for a non-daily-driver Upon closer inspection, you can see the damage. That is not metal flake in the paint, but chemical etching presumably left from sloppy detail work and over-sprayed chemicals allowed to dry out on the paint. The circular scratches are a nice touch, too. Quite a bit of reaction noted from de-ironiser treatment Working it in Clean enough to eat off of! Degreasing the convertible top Some protection still noted on the paint Foam soak to further strip decontaminants and any wax After the wash and touchless air dry, The paint defects can truly be assessed. Marring and holograms came out to say hello in ample quantities! A few paint thickness readings to gauge the health of the clear coat And now the main event: Paint Correction! Most of these shots show initial correction but are prior to refinement stages Before After Before After 50//50 Hood to bumper panel break 50//50 Hood before Hood after initial cutting, not refined Working away! nice work. that is one great looking driveway and lawn in front of the house. also got the automatic sprinkler heads
That is the most beautiful car I've ever seen. The color is astounding, love the non-metallic. Also, snagging a compliment from none other than dsms himself, that should be all you need!
Great job, it really had a lot of etching. The newer Boxsters look really good, the old ones were too hairdresser-like for my taste. Kind regards, Ebbe
Thank you. Yes it is a nice setup, very zen. Thanks Dave! The color on this car is truly beautiful and fairly unique. All compliments are appreciated! I'm with you Ebbe, the old version were pretty bland; this one really catches your eye. I used both flex DA and rotary on this one, among others... Thanks man! Had a few more 50//50s but the lighting ended up not showing them well You hit it on the head! The curves on this car make it much more complicated and although I didn't track the time, it probably took just as long as something larger like and S5.
Great work! Love the color- I got to work on a black edition spyder- then drove it afterwards to help the owner "set in" a new set of Hawk pads along with a new wheel set-up......... LOADS of fun to drive! - Dan
Awesome work and write up with pics ! The car is now gorgeous - before - a nightmare of defects. You absolutely killed it ! Proud of you ! Were you using Microfiber pads ? Dan F
Thanks Dan! I definitely think I need to start offering a brake pad bedding service for my clients to get some seat time on these beasts! Thanks Ken! Thanks Dan! Used MF and foam throughout Thanks man. I use a 7D w/ 18-135. A bit long for most of the shots on a detail but I don't want to shell out so many bucks for a shorter lens! Thanks man!
