Today me and Nick started detail on this 2009 Black BMW 335d. car only has 1700 miles on it. rear quarter panel was repainted( i think he said it was in accident or something, something minor) well, idiots that fixed it apparently dont know how to do paint finish. you will see result of their work later OK. Nick washed the car with CWC and i cleaned floor mats and wheels while he did that. then we taped whole car off, removed plates. it was all we did friday. Saturday we only worked on car for couple hours i think(forgot what we did Saturday) Sunday we did rear, roof and driver side doors. sealed wheels Tuesday we finished the car, Nick put black fire on to cure overnight, then gona be another coat today and 845 on top couple hours later. Notes: paint is Jet Black, pretty easy to fix, but couple times had to do 2 passes with SIP and then 203 all plastic painted parts (bumpers and side skirts) are pita to fix, they seem to have harder paint which we were not able to correct 100% but about 90%. even with wool pad it didnt make perfect. maybe paint is softer and easy to put deep scratches in. i did enjoy working on this couse it was black and results of work are easily shown. Tools and products used so far several kinds of wheel brushes with P21s wheel gel P21S TAW on floor mats CG CWC q-tips lake country sponge poor boys wheel sealant PFW with SIP on rear bumper only (still scratches present but nowhere near as much, they looked to be deep once) Menzerna SIP – Yellow pad Menzerna 203 – Orange Pad Menzerna 106FF – Green Pad Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant – Blue Pad Collinite’s No. 845 Insulator Wax – Blue Pad Poor Boy’s Wheel Sealant/Collinite’s No. 845 Wax on wheels. 2 coats for black fire sealant and 1 coat of 845 Wheels Before Wheels After The paint damage under the halogens, you can clearly see the horrible holograms/buffer trails. You can clearly see the extent of the paint damage in the above pictures, so I focused a lot on the 50/50 photos and the difference is beyond clear. Starting with the trunk. The front fender: The most dramatic 50/50 photos can be seen on the rear quarter panel below: The corrected paint can be seen in the pictures below under direct halogen spotlights and then under direct sunlight. Under sunlight Finished reflection photos Finished full vehicle photos As always, enjoy! Feedback appreciated! -Oakes[/QUOTE]
i could just use automator to resize but lazy to do it. i could justt take pics with smaller res as well. ill probably do that
damn. looks about right for a brand new black bimmer though. tis a shame. good luck with it and im looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Those wheels are a PAIN to clean, there is absolutely no room between the front caliper and the wheel barrel at all.
thats true. used e-z wheel brush and it worked ok. brake shield is too close to wheel. but i managed to clean them good. ill take pics today when i go of course, we need to finish it today
Brutal buffer trails. Cant wait to see the afters! Did you drive the car at all? if so hows the diesel engine?
i dont drive cars i detail couse they are not mine. my friend gets them and sometimes doesnt even drivers them couse customers brings them to his house with 265 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque im sure its pretty good. but never drove diesel so not sure about how it drives even
The 335d has a superb diesel engine, massive amount of torque that just carries on all the way to 5k redline. Very good on gas as well, you totally would not notice it was a diesel when driving it, thats how good BMW has made this car.
Wow ... 1,700 miles and it looks like that. I can't wait for the finished pics. Are you going to use your hitachi on this one? BTW ... if you don't mind me asking. Do you work with the guys from Oakes Detailing or he's being your mentor? I have seen some of his work in Autopia and he does great work.
No hitachi, backing plates not here plus condition of car when it came was result of using rotary actualy, with this paint u can't realy use rotary for some reason. Guy from oakes detailing name is Nick, and its only him, sorta like most detailers on here who detail on side, Dave or Roger or Ev for example, I don't think he is my mentor but I do pick up some things from him, im just extra set of hands and equip, without me he would spend twice as much time on each car couse we pretty much do same amount of work, I do my part as good as he does, don't think u would be able to tell who did what side of the car
we use PC7424 (i use meguiars g100 but its same thing as pc7424) question. maybe on car panels its just easier to take 50/50 shots instead of before and after of whole panel? need to learn how to take 50/50 shots. some just dont come out as good. usualy have to use manual exposure settings
new pics uploading. i want to know how to organize pics. to do before then 50/50 pics and after or do before and 50/50 right after so you dont have to scroll to see after pics?
Misha...man you guys did outstanding work on that Bimmer! Those 50/50 shots are quite impressive. I just finished a brand new black 3 series too but with metallic paint..it's not nearly as nice..don't get the depth as you do with the jet black. It was easy to work with though, so that part was nice.
