2007 GMC Yukon XL - BLACK (hardest/longest detail)

OF MY LIFE~! - heheh that is ...until thursday, when i get my METABO

okay, so heres a lil background on this car that my best friend bought.

its a 2007, bought down here in Buena Park sometime in December 2007 @ Simpson GMC. It had only 50 miles on it, but the paint would never tell you that! So my buddy decides to buy this car, and he took me to 'inspect' the paint n other stuff. It was about 930pm when it was purchased and as soon as they pulled it up from being washed, they made a big mistake by putting it underneath the LIGHTS!!!!

So i said WHOA WHOA WHOA...there is no way your going to pay 40k for this car that has 50 miles on it, but looks like its been driven 500,000 miles in sand, dirt and salt! SWIRL-O-MANIA i must say. Well after doing more research, this car was a 2007, but had been in the BACKLOT for 1+ years and probably went through HELL throughout that time.

So he said to the dealer..."I wont take this car like this, either you get my car detailed, or you reimburse me for the cost of detailing it in NEVADA (where hes originally from)...OR NO DEAL AT ALL" .. So i guess, they thought, its the end of the year, end of the month, we need sales...SURE we'll take you up on your offer, take it to any detailer n WE"LL PAY FOR IT.
Anyways, he dropped of the car about a week ago while he went off to Cancun...and I finally got started on it Today...but it needed to be done by Tuesday. I thought to myself..gee SIP + orange pad, 106 + white...VIA PC (hahahaha) it should only take a couple hours. afterall ive been using this damn PC for years, its just tedius ..and in the back of my head im thinkin (thank god PHIL from DD hooked me up with that Metabo, i cant wait for that freakin thing to come in!)

Ohhh then i started polishing around 11am..1 panel after another...3 or 4 passes with SIP, there was still crazy swirls...and it wasnt even marring that i woudl typicaly expect 106 to clear up on the next pass...

soo...to make a long story, not so long...at the end of the day, i ended up using SSR3, SIP - didnt even get to get any 106ff done on the panels...but here is what the results are so far. then i thought again (god, i wish that metabo was here already..hmm i wonder if i shoudla bought some PG also?!?! hahaha)

I'm plannin on finishing up the whole monster with 106ff tomorrow...wash, apply JS109 x 2 - and then wax it on monday with petes 53 before i drop it off at Long Beach Airport so he can pick it up tuesday morning.

Oh by the way...the dealer is going to love the $$$ i'm charging for this bad boy...needless to say when they see it, theyll appreciate every penny spent

oh by the way did i say i used a PC? ...haha im sure thatll be the last time i say that~!

HERE ARE THE RESULTS AFTER SSR + SIP WITH ORANGE...the only panel that looks moderaltey LSP ready which is some 93.5% swirl free is the trunk...for that reason i dunno.

it looks deciving...i couldnt get the swirls that were left, id say its about 80% swirl free..maybe 1 more pass with SIP and then finish with 106...but a farcry, might i say

Those swirls were horrible!! seriously did they take a Filipino broom and brushed the whole thing with it? Man you better be getting a fat payment for that!!

 

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! Thats DAAAAAAAAAAMN! The car was full of swirls, thats just sick! And polishing that big car with a PC? You should get a diplom I would easy charge 1000$+++

Just 50 miles on it and it was swirl city. I can't believe how dealership do that to a nice car like that. You kick some butt on her, she looks awesome now....

Those arms were made buy corecting paint with a pc hehehe Awsome job!

 

i hate doing details on SUV's theres a mile a paint and the interiors are never ending...anyways i bet you can't wait to dump the PC..lol...nice turn around WHIP...

btw,your dieting/exercise program seem to be working just fine..you came a long from from the pics posted on AGO...:thumb: :thumb:

YA, I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND...how dealerships n stuff can do that...n sometimes some people are so ignorant enough to say that it can be done by THEIR detailers...in A FEW HOURS...for us detailers out there...APPRECIATE YOURSELFS..this is a job that not everyone can do...this was a reality check on what 'detailing' really is...although im sure it woulda helped if i had a rotary..haha

haha, dealership is in the worst area...throughout the past 2 years they have been doing constrtuction on the -I-5 freeway, along with rebuilding the overpasses...so im guessing giant chips of concrete were flung here n there...

my sister is so funny she said "soo...its exterior only today?...i'm goign to clay...and jus vaccumm..then your on your own buddy..." i was sad cuz she was done within 2hours n i had to polish by myself while she went out on a sunny saturday!! haha

haha, the human anatomy says "when arm is turned at such an angle, FLEXION of the BICEPS BRACHII occurs...it jus so happens that the angle my hand was turned to HOLD THE CAMERA, FLEXED the biceps on its own...=)

haha..what pix have u seen on AGO? oh man, well if it wasnt for the currenty members that are on DB that are also/were on AGO, i couldnt have gone this far...so THANKS FOR EVERYONES ADVICE...esp Pirex, gettin me into menzerna...

im sure the job is worth $2,000..we'll see how i feel after the car is done...anyways its 9:16am (i lost an hour already cuz of DLST!!)

Neil how many ounces of just polish would you say you went through, and howmany pads

 

very very very very good question

okay ..im taken a break from the car rite now..i jus finished polshing wit SIP so im gonna rest up before i 106 this bad boy...

JUST FOR THE SSR3 + SIP... id say 9 5.5" orange pads...that is, becuase i have soo many, i mite as welll try to get the BEST of each pad while i can...im sure i coulda got away with mabe 5..but as soon as i felt like cleanin the pad was in effective i changed it

as far as usage...i have bottles of SSR3, so i didnt calculate...but its a pretty aggressive polish so it goes a long way...id say 3oz for for the whole car...if not less...SIP was prolly 2 oz...becuase i didnt expect it to be LSP ready, although it could have been...

becuase im trying to prep it for 106 as best as i can, id imagine that the 106ff usage will be less than 3oz..maybe 2oz?!? (i have those lil 3oz travel bottles n i NEVER use more than that in a typcial detail, but seeing that his car is huge, i could be wrong...but id still expect aroudn the 2 or 3oz range...im sure i can get away with using maybe 3 5.5 white ccs pads...but depending on how ansy i get, i mite use 9 as well!!!

its coming along quite well so im off back to work...i will post pix tonite, hoepfully i cna get a layer of JS109 so alli have to do is jus wax it in the morning and drop it off...

OH BY THE WAY...DID I MENTION THAT IM DOING THIS WITH A PC?!?!?! HAHHAHAHHA

 

I think I did the twin to that one last fall. It was one of my toughest! I labored for almost two hours with my Metabo to just get it LSP ready:giggle:
