This car was scheduled in last week, and I was told before hand that the paint was in pretty bad shape. I took a look at the car, we discussed what would be expected and a time frame. For this car I called in back up, a good friend of mine and fellow detail nerd. The car arrived late, and we were behind schedule, and somehow in the rush we forgot to take a lot of before pics. RIDS everywhere, and to the owners knowledge, it's never been polished or waxed. Some of the hurdles in front of us on this job: Hood is dull, very poor reflection. Some shots of the RIDS. Trunk lid and spoiler showing the worst of the damage. C- Pillar showing RIDS as well. Multiple areas of clear coat failure showing on the hood. Well, we knew we had our work cut out for us, so we ate a big breakfast, and had plenty of left over Halloween candy and Vitamin Waters on hand to maintain a healthy sugar rush. Chris starting on the hood. I'm starting on the side panels. For my side panels, I chose Menzerna IP 1000 with an Über MF cutting pad. Followed by Menzerna SF 4000 on a green Über polishing pad. 50/50: One pass with 1000. 50/50 of hood. Again, 1000, but I believe he used a yellow pad. The little specs are actually small paint chips. Back to the side panels. This is with Menzerna IP 1000, followed by Menzerna SF 4000.... no LSP at this point. Still the horrible GM orange peel, but clarity restored. One final shot we thought would be kinda fun. Just a boxed out section we left unfinished. The final pics were a little limited. Darkness was nipping at our heels, we were beat and the LSP of Menzerna Power Lock had just been removed. Lighting wasn't the best, but it got the job done. Thanks for taking the time to look. Mark
Nice work........... that boxed section really tells the story, I hope the client got to see that! outstanding work guys
nice job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For those areas on clear coat failure on the hood...were there any special steps to try and fix...or was it just "avoid this area at all costs?" I've yet to do a car with said damage.
Thank you. For the damage on the hood we passed over it with 4000 and it actually cleared it right up. Didn't fully correct it, but it made good enough to where you can't notice it at all from 10 feet away. I'm sure it will return eventually, but he was very happy it cleared up.
Yes, it's a corded/ rechargeable LED. I think I got it from SAMs Club. I hate it though. The hook on top is useless. The angle of the hook is terrible, and when I lay the light inside of the car for something, it ALWAYS rolls and lands shining down..... always. Thank you for reminding me to get a new one.
We had a good time on this one. It was so littered with hard water stains and RIDS that after we hit it with 1000 it revealed even more layers of scratches. 1500 really cleared it up tho. Thanks for posting Jumbo Jet.
