hello all i have one of these im working on now....i must say one of the most challenging cars i have ever buffed ....many deep swirls and rids among the most i have seen and to top it off it was recently buffed by 2 different guys with a rotary and no clue ...i tried m105 with yellow uber and it took 3-4 hits to clear it up to 90-95% and the pad was hopping and pretty unmanageable. unhappy with that i switched to m105 surbuff this seemed to clear things up but left tons of marring as expected. followed by d300/mf pad followed by m205 white lc pad which still left marring so i finished with 85rd on a blue uber ...the results are pretty close to perfect but i have got to find another method . anyone have any experience with the super soft sticky clearcoat? here are a few pictures
That is some F#$%ed up! Giving the condition of the paint, any method is going to take you three steps to make it nice. Using wool would have left marring but would have made polishing a lot easier.
yeah thats what i figured...this is the first time i wish i owned a rotary....the owner told me he just bought the car and it was detailed by the dealer when it was traded and after he complained about the condition they did it again. he wants the car as close to perfect as i can get it. some of the other panels are worse off...will have full pictures when i finish.
Are you using any sort of lubricant (ONR detail spray) for lubrication on the pad? Are you priming the pad?
yes primed the bad ...i have done 20-30 cars with 105 and the uber yellow and never had the pad jump and hop like its doing on this car. it even does it with 205 and the white pad but to a lesser extent
Hmm, Might be a stupid suggestion, but have you taken the backing plate off of the 7424XP and wiggled the nut that the BP screws into? Just to check the bearing. I would suggest spraying the pad with a good amount of QD and see if that helps. I was working on a WRX not too long ago and I was running in to a similar situation. The paint was getting too much friction and heated up (I had both a PC and Flex rotary). When I lubed the pad up a decent amount, it helped with the pad hopping. and BTW, THAT PAINT IS F'ED UP!
+1 Lubrication would help greatly, I had to deal with the same type of annoying soft paint (Subaru, black paint) a while back, and QD on the pad + QD on the towel before wiping off polish residue helped A LOT.
thanks will try that i was really surprised i was able to get the hood to about 95%but it took 3 hours lol
i will do this in the morning ....but you know i did notice that if i run the polisher with no load on it i hear a banging noise...its be doing that for the last 3-5 details but i paid it no attention
