With only 30k miles, it needed some love. Products used: Exterior: Z7 car wash with foam lance. Z18 claybar. Z6 as lube for clay. P21S wheel cleaning gel. AM 777 APC to clean tires and wells. Defelsko Positest DFT Combo 3M Extra Cut Compound (ECC) Presta 1500 polish 3M Ultrafina polish Edge Yellow wool Edge Green wool 3M 8" blue foam polishing pad. 3M 6" blue foam polishing pad. Metabo Rotary Z5pro Sealant Z2pro Sealant Z8 Spray Sealant Zaino All in one (ZAIO) Z-16 Perfect Tire Gloss Deep Finish Chrome Interior: Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil Leatherique Prestine Clean 1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium Stoner Invisible Glass Mytee HP60 Spyder carpet extractor Ridgid vac I started by give the seats a vac, always be sure to get down in all of the seams. I then applied Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil to each seat. I sprayed it on thick and worked it in by hand, paying attention to the seams. I was going to have this car for 3-4 days, so I would let the Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil soak into the seats for the entire time. I placed a large bin liner over the drivers seat so that I could move the car around. I took the car out and rinsed it down w/ the pressure washer. I applied P21s wheel cleaning gel to the wheels and foamed down the car with Zaino Z7 carwash and my foam lance via the pressure washer. These pics where taken 3-5 mins after the car was foamed. I used AM777 APC at 1:6 to clean the tires and wheel wells. I rinsed off the paint via pressure washer and foamed it again, I then washed the painted areas via 2 bucket method and a sheepskin mitt. The P21S wheel cleaning gel had sat for about an hour so I then cleaned the wheels with various brushes. I then sheeted the water off of the car with my hose on low pressure. I brought the car back inside. While it was still wet I used Zaino Z6 as a lube and clayed the painted surfaces and glass with Zaino Z18 claybar. I then dried the car off with a new and washed pakshak WW drying towel. I then used my Defelsko Positest DFT Combo to check the thickness of the paint prior to polishing. Here are the defects that I would be dealing with: I started out by using a green edge wool pad/P1500/Metabo 1500. I followed with Blue 3M foam/Ultrafina/Metabo 1500. This combo did not remove all of the defects. So I stepped up to Edge yellow wool/Presta 1500/Metabo 1500. Followed again with Blue 3M foam/Ultrafina/Metabo 1500 -This removed the defects on my test panel: A few areas had deeper RIDS so I used: Edge yellow wool/3M ECC/Metabo 1600 Edge green wool/P1500/Metabo 1500 Blue 3M foam/Ultrafina/Metabo 1500 This area on the right rear fender had some very deep RIDS: After rechecking the area with my Defelsko Positest DFT Combo, I determined that it was safe for some wetsanding: I wetsanded with 2000 paper, let the area dry and could still see a few RIDS thru the wetsanding. So I repeated the process. I then polished the area with: Edge yellow wool/3M ECC/Metabo 1600 Edge green wool/P1500/Metabo 1500 Blue 3M foam/Ultrafina/Metabo 1700 I was able to remove all of the RIDS. I took a few pics of the area but was having a hard time getting a good shot: I final polished the remainder of the car and took a few pics outside to check for holograms: Took this one inside to show the quality of finish that 3M Ultrafina gave me: I then took the car outside, refoam it with Z7 carwash and did a 2 bucket method wash w/ sheepskin mitt to remove any polishing oils. This ensures that Z5pro will have a clean base to bond to. I dried off the car with a fresh Pakshack WW drying towel. I applied ZAIO to the wheels. I applied 3x of ZFX'd Z5pro to the paint and glass, then took some pics before the sun went down: The car then sat for a few days in my garage while I had another detail to do. I applied Leatherique Prestine Clean to the seats on section at a time. I sprayed it on and worked it on with my gloved hands. I then used a small cotton hand towel which was dipped in warm water and wrung out. I wiped off the dirt that had permeated to the surface. I gave the rest of the interior a wipedown with 1Z cockpit premium. Carpets and mats got extracted my my Mytee HP60. Interior glass cleaned with IG and a small pakshak WW towel. I applied a coat of Z2pro to the paint and then some Z8. Tires got Z-16. Bret was passing thru after a w/e of detailing himself and gave me a hand by removing the Z2pro and applying the Z8. He also polished the exhaust tips with some Deep Finish Chrome. Thanks Bret! I apologize but my interior after pics did not come out so well late at night. I should of viewed them on the computer before I returned the car to the owner: A few final pics, I wish it was not dark out:
Thanks Diesel! For me the ultrafina is a little easier to work with. Thanks Sneek! I agree the 993s are like a women in some ways. Thanks Crossroads! The car was a repaint in the past so they where thicker then normal. Great idea to share PTG readings, especially on new cars. Thanks Calgary!
Really looks fantastic. Just had to ask, one thing I dont understand, why was the Z2pro removed and the Z8 then applied. Sorry, still dont know how these all work.aranoia:
Incredable detail, those 50/50 pictures look great :applause: Thank you for sharing with us great detail :thumb: Oh those head lights, are they factory?
Now thats a great write-up and a true correction process (wetsanding the rids) and making a work of art go up in price! Awesome work and man that car is soooooo nice to see looking perfect!........:worship:
Thanks Phil! Thanks RB! Z2pro is a sealant that works like most other sealants. Wipe it on, wait 15-30 mins (depending on temp/humidity) for it to haze. Then buff it off with a nice MF. Z8 is a spray sealant-Using very little spray it on one section at a time, wipe with MF, flip MF and buff. Z8 is not a Quick detailer as it has no cleaners. You can also use it after a wash. Thanks Carlos! The headlights work very well as I had to pick the car up and deliver it back to the client. :woot: Angelo, Thanks for your kind words! Yes they work very well. Thanks Pat! I try my best on every vehicle I polish, but this car begs for something extra. :worship: Thanks Frank! After 3x of Z5pro, 1x of Z2pro and some Z8 to finish. The paint will stay slick for a good while. Thanks P1et! :cool2:
NIce 993. I have a 993 C2 Cab and would like to know where you got the rocker panels to look like the turbo panels? Any help is appreciated. Steve
Great job there Bryan! I've never seen this detail before and I just noticed it was from several months ago, hehe.
Oooh nice..so do you have any pictures of your C2? I'm sure we would all enjoy seeing the pictures :thumb:
