Calgarydetail ordered the famous System One and well I told him that I’d like to see it in action, so we needed a vehicle to test it on. My sister has an old beater that they use for winter and well I thought that would be a good candidate, besides it’s an old beater. Poor thing is in rough shape. The vehicle: 1992 Mazda MX-3 Well like I said the vehicle is an old beater and it was worthy to try out this System One product. Well on with the show. First up to give the vehicle a good rinse: Calgarydetail was eager to get going so he started giving the vehicle a god rinse. With the help of the EZ brush we gave the rims a good scrub and with Calgarydetails long reach handle brush which, he very clearly pointed out has bristles on it :lol2:: Then on to the washing of the vehicle: Calgarydetail and Divine Detail jumped all over the vehicle and started washing it. Once all the scrubbing and washing was done it was time to rinse the vehicle off: Once it was all rinsed off it on to the claying of the vehicle, the clay of choice was our friend Ricardo Clay: Once the entire vehicle had been clayed the vehicle received another rinse and Divine Detail wanted to use a California blade :shakehead:: Now I have never used such a blade but it worked quite well…but I’ll stick to my air compressor  Time to dry the vehicle off: We used various towels but I like eShines towel, Dehydrator :thumb: Then it was time to tape up the vehicle: Once all the taping was done I wanted to take some paint gauge readings with my PosiTector 6000: Well after all that probing here is what we ended up with: Well I think the videos showed how interesting the readings were on this vehicle. Well after taking the readings and noting the low areas and the high areas it was time to see what we were up against: Oh yea I mentioned it was a banged up beater right hahahahaha So on to the polishing, Calgary detail took the hood, I taped it up for him to do the 50/50 with and Divine Detail took the roof and the fun began, here are some videos of Calgarydetail using the Sytem One, hahaha I mean here we go: I was giving Calgarydetail a hard time with System One hahahahaha Well I’ll let Calgarydetail post up his comments about System One, after seeing it in action and seeing the results I didn’t even want to give it a try and got my Menzerna products out :thumb: Well after Calgarydetails attempt with System One I took a stab on the same section of the hood. So I first tried Menzerna Power Gloss Compound with a Meg’s Cutting Wool Pad at around 2000RPM, this didn’t make any difference at all, I was shocked so I tried it again...once again nothing, so I started wet sanding. I used 2,500 grit paper, then Menzerna Power Gloss Compound with Meg’s Cutting Wool Pad x 2, then 85RD3.02 with Meg’s Cutting foam pad and finished off with 85RD with a Meg’s Polishing pad. This gave me the following results: This is how the other half looked like: And this is the entire hood corrected as best as possible: Well that was the combo we went with, Power Gloss with a cutting wool pad, 85RD3.02 with Meg’s Cutting foam pad and finished off with 85RD with Meg’s Polishing pad all at about 1,500 to 2000RPM. Here is me polishing a way Well the polishing continued on Calgarydetail took one side and I took the other side, this vehicle was in really poor, poor conditions actually we concluded that this vehicle had been repainted several times :wall:. I mean the roof of the vehicle was single stage along with the passenger front fender the rest of the vehicle had lots and I mean lots of clear coat we tried on purpose to go through the clear coat wile wet sanding and we couldn’t the most we removed was about 15microns. Well I’m sure we could have gone through the clear if I would have brought the more aggressive wet sanding but the lowest grade I had was 1,500 and even though I wanted to see the thresh hold of the clear coat it would have taken way to long so we didn’t continue wet sanding. I wish I could say that we got the vehicle to 90% corrected but in all honestly this vehicle had swirls deep, deep within I mean when it got re-painted or re-sprayed the swirls were locked within and it would have been impossible to remove, not unless we repainted the vehicle :shakehead:…it was very discouraging but in all fairness the vehicle finished off much better compared to what we had to start with. Here are the head lights before: After: Well after all the polishing had been done we washed the vehicle again to remove all the dust and any polish residue that may have remained on the vehicle. After the wash it was time to protect the vehicle: One coat of CG EZ Crème Followed up with: CG FS Factory Sealant This vehicle took much longer then expected but that was okay, it was all fun and games anyways. Wile we let CG FS Factory Sealant cure Crossroad was trying to clean his pads off: Here is the vehicle all finished off: Oh that white stuff on the hood is major clear coat failure Well that’s the project, hope you all enjoyed the detail…I sure had fun with this one, just wished we could have achieved better results but like I said the vehicle was in really bad shape. Well like always any feed back good or bad is always welcome. Oh by the way I managed to get the vidoes working, I had to use a cheep program to get them going for now as I'm waiting for DB Boss to get me the programs I need for the HD quality vidoes :applause2: so next hopefully next detail posted it will have the HD videos, hopefully.
thanks for posting carlos. This was a weird car, no matter what we tried we could not make a dent in the swirls... i think they where on the paint, so under the clear... but we did have fun Im shoclked by the videos, i really thought i moved slower then that, I really did. so before people comment I would recomend you film yourself and see how quickly you really move, its amazing what you think you do and what you actully do... trust me i am shocked..... as for system one, it did not impress me, ut tha was on this car. It was a werid paint to work on. I will def. be trying it on another car, with a more regulat clear to see how well it works
I was buging Calgarydetail about how he was going too fast ha gotcha on tape too, see told ya you were goin too fast lol...yea that's me bein supportive of you hahahahahaha. No but seriously, I agree with you 100%, my wife would laugh at me when I filmed my self polishing and then I'd load it on the computer and watch my self. I kid you not I did that, she thought I lost it :crasy: but I learned lots from doing that, if I was going to fast or to slow or applying to much pressure..ect..ect..actually I got that from my early soccer years, coach would film the games and then play them back to us, my game improved exponentially wile watching my self....well glad I got a better system to record with lol...so watch out Calgary  Oh I had fun watching you use the System One hahahahahaha Glad you enjoyed it jake_b, um nope can't say I've ever used Meg's so1o? What is it? Sorry I don't know what it is. Oh the videos, well after loosing some sleep this week, reading so much info on HD videos and conversion DB Boss and Rich (Polished Bliss UK) told me that I could use Windows Movie Maker and convert the files from there, the only draw back is that I would loose all the HD quality but as a temporary fix it worked quite well. DB Boss is getting me two programs I need to convert the files but still retain the HD quality on them, can't wait to get them...just waiting on DB Boss :waiting2: :waiting2:
well if you leave them on the camera I can do it for you. haha I dont really need my computer much next week. It would be the end of the world if you borrowed it (but close jkjk) Just get you macbook pro from him and use iMovie right off the bat. haha I spent 4 hours trying to convert it with Nero Recode because It was freezing.
Oh yea I used a bunch of other programs and my poor laptop looked as though it was going to melt hahahahaha kept getting hanged up so many times. I talked to DB Boss today about the Macbook first he made fun of me then he says to come and get it :wall: well never did make it to his house maybe this weekend...I'm really curious as to how fast the Macbook will be...I think I need to learn abit more about it first though..but man I've been dong so much reading on HD conversion it's sad....oh but I had to get the latest and greates technology didn't I...the HD conversion is so new people are scrambling using bits and peaces of programs to convert, you use one software to convert to this format, you then take another software to convert to this other format, then you take a third software to convert to that for mat..bla...bla..bla..bla..:gross: but I narrowed it down to two programs but I'm beat need some sleep :coffee: I may hit you up on doing the other videos I got coming :shh:
Nice to see a lot of videos man that car is just FKD UP!! I think u guys should try system one on a vehicle with a bit better condition so Mike won't think he absolutely wasted his money. That looked like fun you guys!
Thats a great write up Looks like you guys have alot of fun! Carlos, you are really nice to Mike on the videos..LOL. :lol2: I liked how Mike said the System one was thrash, talk about being honest :applause2: Back to the car, it was in a baaaaaaaaaaaad shape! I have seen cars before that have been repainted, and the clear coat has locked in the swirls. Nothing to do about that :kick2: The car came out great, you did as best it could be done. And Menzerna is still at top huh? imp: Oh, and I diden`t get a invite :complain::comfort:
Great videos! Nica, about the reading that you were getting - you were moving to fast from spot to spot. You have to give the meter a second to readjust.
Yea, I had fun taking cheap shots at Calgarydetail hahahaha as I'm sure you noticed on the videos hahahahahaha but yea the vehicle was in really poor shape oh and I didn't even want to touch the interior lol my nease and nephew did a number on the interior hahahahaha. Oh and yes in all fairness Calgarydetail is going to use System One an another vehicle but I thought it would be perfect to see System One and see exactly how much it could correct :006: Oh yes, I was very supportive of Calgarydetail :spitlol: :spitlol: oh and yea Mike is brutaly honest hahahahahaha but I don't mind that :thumb: Yea the vehicle had swirls locked way deep in the paint  but it was fun fooling around on this vehicle....like I said I wanted to go through the clearcoat but it would have taken too long becuase there was so much clear coat on it :waiting2: so I scratched that idea :badidea: Yea I know, that was Calgarydetail taking the readings...he's got a thing for moving fast :lol2: :lol2: dont worry I was giving him a hard time about that :bat: :bat:  Yup, using the Cannon...it was quite easy to convert the files but had to read lots to finally understand how to convert it and what programs to use :wall: but it's all good now, I not a 100% sure but I don't think these videos were HD quality, the ones I posted that is. When I get the other programs to convert the videos I will be able to convert the files and still keep the videos in HD quality can't wait :cheerl:
Hey Carlos, considering the condition of the paint and the hard time you had whilst even using products that have ALWAYS worked for you in the past do you think this vehicle may not be a good one to give an accurate portrayal of what System 1 can do? From the write up it seemed like regardless of what you used you had a hard time right? Just looking to see if you would agree that this vehicle wasn't an appropriate finish to do a true test using system 1?
Oh that's a 10-4 buddy, in all fairness to System One this vehicle was in really bad, bad shape and the only way to make a difference to it was to wet sand...but from the clips of System One I thought it was meant to be used just like any other polish I mean I saw a clip where the girl was wet sanding the hood then she used the System One to bring it back...so even though this vehicle was in really bad shape I "thought" that System One would do the trick. But yes, to get any results on this vehicle it took lots and lots of cutting to make a dent on the swirls it had.

yeah we will give the car a second shot, when carlos had taken the video I had only tried syetm one, we had yet to relize how had the clear was...so my comments (like telling justin to f-off) need to be taken in context carlos is mr nice, actully Im the mean one :argue:.... carlos is normaly the nice guy :eyebrow:.... but he got me a few times on this detail :cool2:.... it was lot of fun.....but im going to talk to bdbos and get nica's name changd to mr mean haha yeah, in all honesty i have used te thing maybe 1or 2 times prior.. I was unaware.. thanks for the top :woot:...oh and carlos, this means i get to use it again :giggle: thanks everyon for there comments :flirt:
at least you guys had some fun and learnt something-not to purchase system one:comfort: Thanks for sharing
Nica, Megs SO1O cut & cream polish is about same as system one. (i don't know if it's the same formula)..Using only one product and different pad to achieve different finishes. I had used it in my car and it was good.. but i don't know if it work in other cars since i haven't used it coz of weather. my car is a '06 civic and i used a wool & sanded down deeper scratches..it removes 2000 grit sanding then followed up by polishing pad...and i had a good result.. i hope you can try and see what you think about it.. i am new to paint correction and my opinions on other products fall short since i have only used megs and 3m...
