Looks like I will have my hands full this week. My dad just got this '67 911S in and decided to put it in a show for next Sunday. After looking over the paint I am guessing that it will take over 20 hours just in polishing  It is very obvious that the previous owner did not use proper wash and dry technique but I will let you decide through the pictures...

    Swirls???

I tried a test spot on the passenger side of the hood. It took 3 passes of Optimum Compound and orange pad followed by Menzerna 106FF. This is what it looked like after 25 min of polishing.

Up close you can still see a few RIDS, but without a PTG I am not wetsanding any...

    More pictures of the swirls...

As you can see here, the paint is somewhat dull with no depth...

I plan on going over it with many passes off Menzerna SIP and then Menzerna 106FF and then topping that with P21S 100% Carnauba. It will be a long and tough week, but hopefully the final results will be worth it... Wish me luck!

Wow gorgeous vehicle :thud: I just love the sexy curves on the older Porche :druling:

That test panel looks great 25min wow what were you using DA or Rotary? I'm assuming DA but that's about right if your using a DA...actually even with a rotary it sometimes can take you a bit longer to get the results your after.

Sounds like your goin got have lots of fun with this vehicle, I agree with sneek take lots of pictures to take us along the ride of your detail :thumb:

Can't wait to see it when your done, you can do it!!! :giterdone: :support:

Got a little work done today...

I started by pulling the car out and giving it a full wash and clay.

I went panel by panel with ONR and green Sonus clay making sure to remove all contaminants on the paint.

Here is my ONR bucket ready to go with my new Lowes Proline Grout Sponge.

Here is the clay and a couple of drying towels.

I would wash one panel at a time, mist a bit of clay lube on top of the already pre-soaked panel, clay that panel, then re-wash it with ONR.

Here I am making sure that every bit of the car is free of contaminants; even in between the badges.

Here is the clay after 3 panels.

Here is what the paint was left looking like today, as the polishing will wait for a later date.

It was then time to get some work done on the interior.
I first removed all carpets, and then cleaned all interior surfaces with a woolite and water mix of 1 to 8. After all of the surfaces were clean I then went over and applied Optimums Protectant Plus to all vinyl on the interior. After all surfaces had been dressed, I then moved on to condtioning the seats. I applied Leatheriques Pristine Clean to the seats by hand, as shown here---
    [IMG]

After the seats had been conditioned, it was time to vacuum all the carpet that had been removed from the vehicle. After this I then cleaned polished, and sealed the door jambs. They were cleaned with Poorboys Spray and wipe and then polished with Sonax Paint Creme as shown here.

After the polishing was complete I then sealed them with Optimums Opti-Seal. At this time I then cleaned the glass and gave the interior a final wipe down and took these pictures.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get to work on the engine and underbody...

    Thanks!

I am using my UDM as I am being very catious at the level of paint being removed from the car. 25 min may have seemed a bit high, but that was including pulling the car in and out after each pass to see how much further I needed to go. I have noticed a couple of spots on the car that will probably force me to pull out the rotary, but for most of the paint it will be the UDM. This is taking much longer than usual, but it is safer on a car like this. After each panel is polished I plan on giving it a 50/50 wipedown and making sure that all defects are being removed. On most cars I would not go so slowly, but hopefully, this one will be worth the extra time spent.

I plan to take many pictures of the paint correction, with a lot of direct halogen before and afters to really show off the correction being done. Stay tuned, paint correction should start Thursday or Friday.
