My father bought this Healey to flip for a quick profit. He is planning on listing it in an upcoming RM auction. It is a Senior National First Place winner as well as having won other awards as well. This car was restored to impeccable condition with every detail done right as far as I can see. The paint was suffering from poor washing technique by the look of it. I spent longer on it than I thought I would but it was really responding well so it was worth it. On to the pics.. The Process: Wash/Wheels/Tires: The wheels had a grease like substance that was over the surface. My dad is going to be replacing them with wires so he told me not to bother with them but I did try to spruce them up a bit nonetheless. The wheels were cleaned with Megs WB followed up by Zep Citrus. The tires were cleaned with Zep purple degreaser. The wells were cleaned with Citrus too. The wheels were polished by hand with DG 501. The tires were dressed with DP gel. The car was foamed with a mixture of DG 901 and Zep Citrus to remove any LSP...there was a lot of wax on the car. This was followed up by a 2bm wash and dried by ww. Paint: The paint had lots of scratches that were visible under my powerful CFL's. There were these annoying black dots all over the paint too that were a real pain in the ass to get out..I don't even know what they were but you can see them in one closeup pic. The black along the side seemed to be dull as was the yellow. For the first step I settled on a white pad with Menz power finish. I followed this up with DG 501 on a blue pad and then used CG Wet Mirror Finish with a red pad. All polishing done by my Dynabrade. I wanted the finish to have the wettest look possible as well as having a good protection b/c the auction is still a few months off. The work was sealed in with DG 601/111 combo. FC&S was used after a curing time of about an hour. The finish was unbelievably smooth. Chrome: The bumpers were in really good shape and were buffed with PF via 4" pad. This was followed up by XMT 360...what a combo!! The chrome looked incredible. The other chrome got DG 501, including the centre caps. The grille also got DG 501. Interior: The carpeting was new so there were no stains to remove. There were all sorts of carpet stuff from the installation that got vacuumed up. The seats were treated with 303 Aerospace. The dash was hand polished with DG 501. The glass was cleaned with Zep glass. The door jams were cleaned with 303 as well. Bonus: I don't ever do this with a customer's car, but since it was my dad's, I took my girls out for 2 different rides...once after the wash and then after being completed. BEFORES: Some Chrome Shots: Its Awards: AFTERS (INSIDE): AFTERS (OUTSIDE): REFLECTION FROM DOOR: BONUS ROUND: Thanks for looking.
Nice work, but I would not put photos with faces, unless they are you or your employee's. The internet is kind of scary like that.
Thanks Aesop...I know you do a lot of work on classics and antiques. It's me and my girls in the photos.
Great job Richy! Looks awesome. Cute kids as well. Two girls eh? Good luck with that! That yellow looks fantastic. I have a client with four old British cars. Kind of cool.
the younger one seemed to change her toon when it wasn't soo cold out that first pictures should be reposted just for a caption contest
Ken, I love British cars. I was given a 1956 Morgan +4 when I turned 16. I have loved them ever since! And yes, me and 3 girls in the house...I keep saying I won't see the inside of a bathroom in 10 years..they'll all be taken, LOL. It was funny...they were fighting over the seating position as I was taking the shot. The next time I just put the youngest in the back and she was golden...should have done that in the first place! feel free to post whatever caption you like
Indeed sir, and that car will look even more stunning indoors. Work like that can really make a big difference at an auction.
Thanks Dana...that's Giorgia..she's the older one. She has her hair down in the pics and I had it in ponytails when she was in DC...maybe you just don't recognize her from the pics?
I do remember, I was just saying you only brought your one daughter to lunch. Maybe your wife knows you can't handle two daughters and was giving you a break-lol.
Thank you. Thanks! Andy..I would say yes otherwise it would not qualify for some of the awards it has won...originality is key. Dana..We had only brought the eldest..the youngest stayed home with Grandma for that trip. And you're right..having both there would have been a handful! Thanks..I was very pleased at how it came out. Thanks..I'm getting very fond of the DG 111.
