This is the first (full) detail of my truck since I've owned it, which has been a year. This was a good chance for me to try out my favorite detailing ensemble on new material. Here are the particulars. Cleaning: Mother's California Gold Wash Sonus Detailing Clay Mother's Detailing Brushes Polish Team PC with: Sonus SFX 2(Swirl Remover), SFX 3 (finishing), Paintwork Cleanser Sonus SFX Polishing Pads (3" and 6") and backing plates Clean up: Sonus Acrylic Spritz Acrylic Glanz LSP: Zymol Vintage The start: For me, taping is one of the most important (pain in the butt but...) steps.. Result w/one round of Vintage
Some other location(s) In all I'd say that the polishes and wax seem to work together as well as it has for me in the past. One of the challenges that I faced this time was getting a feel of how the wax translated an actively metallic surface into a finished result. Also, as it has been in the past, the newly applied wax is just getting started, as Vintage and the rest of the Zymols seem to get better in texture with a little age. Happy detailing everyone!
Man I can see why you hate to tape up, looks like its ready to roll into a paint booth :giggle: The SS looks Fantastic, great job :applause:
Ya some say I may get a little tape happy, but try cleaning off polish mist and dust when you are trying to finish up.............talk about frustrating lol!!!! Its a painful chore in the beginning but I am sure thankful for it in the end. Thanks for the notice!
a little tape happy? ... that might be an understatement ... lol You did a fantastic job on that one. great SUV ... almost traded my old GTO for one of those. Do you have any mods? I have heard them with a corsa exhaust and kooks headers and they sound amazing. There's a tuning company in MI that do great ECU for your SS ... I think the name is vector motorsports if I remember correctly.
Lol.....ok I'll have to tone down the tape job next time lol!!!! You guys and ladies are lucky....I usually cover my wheels as well. Its hard finding clear plastic bags for 20" SUV wheels though....haha!! I have no mods at the moment. I want to eventually do an exhaust upgrade, but right now I've got a lot on my plate with the garaging of the car(s!), and other stuff. I want to do a stereo upgrade as well (its begging for it). I'd love to do a tune too, but that might come after the warranty. TBSS' are notorious for blowing up their trannies, especially after a tune or power adder mod; Thus I'm playin it safe for now. Thanks again for watching. All comments welcome!
Well done vehicle looks great...I too have been putting off giving my SUV a polish, thing is huge and lots of surface area to polish, I just keep waxing it
Thanks for the good words of encouragement. That was another thing I had to get used to (this being my first suv); Having a lot more sheetmetal to detail. When I first picked it up last year I was dying to put vintage on it, but I wasn't ready for the entire detail production and I didn't want to put the wax on an unprepped surface. I had to prioritize like crazy just to get a time slot in for it. Ashame that (for optimal results) a detail should be done on a yearly basis....its alot of work!
Hehe......ya guess I outdid myself on the tape job this time around...............lol!!!!! Hope you guys will take it easy on me when I post up the detail on my ol' lady camaro.....now there's a work of art in taping............even if I say so myself!
Thanks again for noticing. Right now the TB is a weekend/special event vehicle. I originally bought it for more user friendliness as opposed to my camaro, but since my commute and parking situation at work are brutal I've decided against driving it to work. Its ashame, but on the other hand I prefer to keep cars that matter as mint as possible.
