I was actually going to be working on a Volvo XC90 today but my mom was over watching my 3 year old (and baking, Bless her) so I decided to do an exterior detail on her '08 Lexus. I got to use a new DG beta product for the sealant and it is amazing. I didn't take a long time shooting the pics but I am very happy with how they look...thanks again Tom for the deal on the Nikon. I did not have a lot of time to work on this today, only 4 hours, so I had to hustle to get 'er done. Luckily the paint was in really good shape for the most part and it corrected silly easy. The Process: Wheels/Tires/Wells: Tires were cleaned with Zep purple degreaser Wheels were cleaned with DG All wheel cleaner Wells were done with Zep Citrus Tires later treated with DP tire gel Wheels were sealed with DG sealant Zep and DG at work: Wash: Foamed with cannon using DG 901 followed by 2bm Paint: There were a few scratches (and several chips that I would have dearly loved to fill in but alas no touch up was available) that were buffed out surprisingly easily with X3 (I still really like this stuff) and a white 5" LCC pad. I don't think I've ever seen paint correct this easily. The rest of the car was polished with DG 501 and a black LCC 5" pad. Sealed with DG sealant. Final pass with DG Marine detail spray. Glass: The glass was cleaned with Zep. I wanted to put the sealant on the glass too but I ran out of time. I will do it when she's here next and I can finish the car off by doing the interior. BEFORES: AFTERS: LOVE HOW DEEP THE REFLECTION IS HERE! Thanks for looking.
The red does look great, Lex always has nice colors that come out well after a detail. The pics are great as well, last one is money!
Rich ! Do I really have to say nice work? It's assumed for you I too love the depth the DG sealant and wipe down turn out. Tasty tasty red ! MMmm Mmmm good. BTW I love your neighbourhood! I love the size of the houses and everything just seems so tranquil. Pumpkins still out and I'm sure full of kids running about during halloween. oooo one more thing did you get a prime lens for your d3000? I think i'm going to get a 50mm 1.4f or the 35 1.8f.
Thank you. I love the DP gel and will not stop using it. I bought 2 big bottles over a year ago when AG had a BOGO sale and I'm only now getting to the bottom of the 1st bottle. As far as durability, I am pleased with it in that regard as well. I'm thinking at least a week it'll look that good if not for longer..it's great stuff..but you HAVE to like the wet look or it's not for you. Denzil..thanks a lot. I had a Nikon FG from over 20 years ago that I used to be pretty good on..gotta get back into the swing with this new one. Thanks Ken...as great as it is to see someone else happy over the condition of their car, it's even better getting that reaction from family. Thanks...funny, I thought the first one was..but I do like that shot as well. Piet..loving it so far. I am getting a 55-200 zoom to go with it. I always like having the zoom...even my fuji had a 18X zoom on it. Thanks...I was very pleased considering this was only one step..DG 501. there's no question the new camera is better but I was pretty pleased with the outside shots I took of the Austin Healey I did. the true test will be indoor shots with the Nikon. Yes I did..haven't used it yet. I just feel that you can't do as much with it as you can a zoom...maybe I'm showing my ignorance there?
I just did on of these in a similar color. Fantastic car to drive, started growing on me as I worked on it. Fantastic work man.
