Hi guys! Rickrack and I just opened a high end detail shop in Burlington, MA. We speacialize in paint correction and will be showing off alot of our work here. The owner of this car took it to Infinity to have some work done and they washed it. When he took it home he noticed all the swirls and went back to complain. The detailer there said he was one of the best and used top rated products like 3M and Menzerna, so the owner let them go ahead and detail it for him. He had picked up the car and said it looked good. When he washed it a few days after, he said it looked 100 times worst then what it did before it went in there. He went back to the dealer and complained and they said there was nothing that they could do cause of the paint hardness and he would have to deal with the swirls. Here is what the car looked like after Rickrack and I washed it. Needless to say it only has 8000 miles on it. The owner kept it up in pretty good shape and knows how to properly wash it without marring but the dealer ruined it for him. Here is a tag under the hood stating that the paint is extremly hard. We were after a 100% swirl removal job and the customer wanted the best and had money to pay. So we had our work cut out and boy did we work hard. All work was done by rotary only. Here is work in progress! This is right after finessing the compound to a perfect gloss.

First of all congrats on the shop Rydawg :applause: wish you nothing but the best. I look forward to some details from you guys :thumb: The vehicle looks great, very nice turn around...but that's an Infinity? I didn't know they had hard clear coat? I thought they had the medium soft clear coat? Well I honestly don't know I haven't done an Infinity just yet. Any who, great turn around and a thumb's up from the owner is a healthy sign :mounty: Thank you for sharing with us eace: Oh yes, what products/pad combo did you use?
I took these pictures 2 days after the job. The owner went up NH through some heavy sand and salt and through some heavy rain too. He said he put 300 miles on the car. He had taken it through a touchless car wash cause it was covered in heavy dirt and dust. He brought it to my shop and I washed it and took these pics. The owner was very extremly pleased after the wash and he knows the finish is 100% and there is nothing hiding anything. He now is going back to dealer to prove them wrong. Rick and I could not believe how happy the guy was.
This was a tough battle cause with this being a hard finicky clear and it did not react like the hard clears that I am use to. For products we used a mixed combo of Menzerna, 3M, Megs, and Presta. It was more of a process at how to remove the scratches on these new complex hard clears. You have to litterally chase after the swirls and knock them down. Rick and I went in the office and drew up a new plan and correction process on the board and followed our new correction process. It was very time consuming, but the customer was paying top dollar to make it 100%. I knew we could do it, but it was how to go about the process. It took total 20 hours to make 100%.
Thanks! Thanks Nica! These new Infinity clears are super hard. The scratch easy but the scratches do not come out easy. Even the dealer did not know anything about the hard clear. They use to be soft.
I tried to edit my posts to add info, but the site here keeps freezing. After polishing, we poured 100% alcohol to remove all the oils and make sure everything was good. For final inspection I used prepsol and inspected every panel to make sure the finish was 100%.
Car looks great. There is something I don't quite get what in the world did the dealer do to it. I mean if the clear is so hard to correct wouldn't it be hard to swirl up from bad washing techniques, unless (to steal a line from P1et) they washed it with a burlap bag full of walnuts. Just curious if the dealer ever admitted to what they had done.
Very Nice! I'm always amazed how good dealers are at swirling up cars. The last car I brought had been in the dealers showroom with only 5 miles on it. When I got it home and put the halogens on it you could see it was full of swirls.
Yea sorry about that, the site seems to do that once in a wile :shead: :shead: still has some bugs that need to be worked out :sorry:
Nissan has upgraded to harder clearcoat. Yes, Menzerna Nano polishes are very helpful here! Great job, and thanks for sharing!
what i don't understand is that these guys detail for a living when are they going to get it right :shead: nice job rydawg, congrats on the new shop :thumb:
I was having a conversation with Phil about the defects of new Black Nissan paint. Maybe Phil can jump in here...
