This car belongs to my boss's wife. The front end was covered in overspray from staining a fence that has been there for months. Following the least to most aggressive strategy, I first employed Value Guard's 3 step process...it just laughed at it although it did clean the paint very well. Next up was my most aggressive clay with ONR as lube..no dice. I then tried it using IRA (isopropyl rubbing alcohol) as lube. That worked but I didn't like using it so I then tried using a trick that worked before and that was DG Bug remover as lube..once again to the rescue! It was still hard work that took 2 hours on hood and fenders to correct, but it worked. The rest of the car had a lot of scratches too..a 15 hour job all told....glad it's done (and so is my wife, LOL). The owner also tried to compound out the spots which you can see from the befores. The car has had paintwork where it was wheeled out by a butcher..I made sure I took pics and showed them where the damage was. The Process: Wheels/Tires/Wells: Wheels cleaned with DG cleaner and EZ brush (chrome was peeling badly in the barrels, so I mostly used just chemical so as to not to make it worse) Tires with APC Wells with APC Wheels polished with XMT 360 Wheels sealed with DG 105 Tires treated with DP gel Wash: DG Bug remover and bug sponge Value Guard 3 step process Paint: Aggressive clay (see above) Compound with rotary using Megs 105 and purple foamed wool (when needed) Compound with rotary using X3 and purple foamed wool Polish with rotary using XMT 360 with UDM and black pad Plastic polished with rotary using X3 then XMT 360 Sealed with DG 601/105 combo AW after curing period Head/Tail lights: Headlights wet sanded using 2000 grit Compounded using Megs 105 with mini purple foamed wool Polished using DG plastic polish Sealed with DG 105 Tails compounded with X3 and foamed wool Polished with XMT 360 Sealed with DG 105 Interior: Carpet Mats vacuumed, stain treated with Folex, power washed, vacuumed again Rubber Mats power washed, cleaned with APC, treated with Tire spray Carpeting stain treated with Folex where necessary Carpeting steam cleaned Plastic trim cleaned with Kleenol Plastic trim treated with 303 Glass with IG Leather treated with DG conditioner Exterior Trim: Black Wow or 303 BEFORES: Scratches and Overspray: Welcome to my Nightmare! Other Befores: Other Detailer's Mistake: AFTERS: Jump, Flake, Jump
Wow Rich. That was aweful. Looks like you fixed it up really nice. Great turnaround on that car. The overspray was aweful!!
Great work. DG Bug remover as a clay lube to remove overspray. Must find a neuron to file that away for future reference.:thumb:
Richy rich. that is a beautiful turnaround!!!! I don't think I've ever seen you do a car that wasn't totally trashed!
Brilliant turnaround!! That was disgusting. How could you even get into your own car with it looking like that? Get yourself a red clay bar from Automagic. I would be surprised if it didn't remove that in one pass. You would have had to polish, but it would have saved you a bunch of time.
I don't know how you do it my friend, excellent work! I personally hate messing with overspray, quite the tedious job!
Car looks perfect, nice work Richy! Is XMT 360 powerfull enough to remove the buffing marks after the wool pad? Have a bottle here somewhere, but have never tried it before.. Have to try it after seeing this car! Love the trick about bug & tar remover as clay lube!
Green..I first discovered that doing this job back in April: http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f47/95-trans-am-new-trick-clay-3270.html It worked well but destroyed the clay. And thank you.:thumb: Bryan...That's funny..No, I don't look for it, but truth of the matter is, I think the worse the condition to begin, the more you blow the customer out of the water! Dust..Dude..I think I'm getting a reputation around here, LOL 911..I tried to trade for some a while ago but was unsuccessful. I can't seem to find any locally, either here or Detroit. I think I'll have to just order some and pay shipping. I was using an aggressive purple clay that came from a local supplier. It mars the paint when it's used; it too is quite aggressive, although I don't know how the red CM compares. I prefer the blue CM to Riccardo (I know I'm in the minority there!!) I do want to try some. P1et..thank you my friend. I was quite proud getting it removed.
Virtual..I found that I could get the X3 LSP ready with a purple wool, so it was no problem to use the XMT after..in fact I like how it made the flake pop. I had first followed it up with Menz Micro followed by RMG (which I always found makes flake jump). Then for sh*ts and giggles, I tried the XMT and not only did it look better, it saved a step!! The bug remover I had used in this detail and it worked great, although in that case I think the Value guard may have done the trick, but I didn't have any yet. http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f47/95-trans-am-new-trick-clay-3270.html
I agree with you. I tried the Riccardo clay and binned it after two uses. The red clay is very aggressive and will remove pretty much anything. You will have to polish afterwards but it is what it is. If you can't find it let me know, although we do take it in the #$% up here on the Automagic bars. $40 for a 200gram bar.
Jason..thanks bud! The part that made the over spray so bad was how long it had cured on the paint! Asphalt..Thank you very much! I'll have to get a few off the internet to make it worthwhile. Thanks Jake!
Thats some awesome work. Wow id say thats more than overspray that thing covered in stain. Whats your thoughts on the valuguard system? i am thinking bout picking it up
Wow man that's a lot of work there richy..hey richy didn't you get the red clay bars I sent you? I sent you two bars? You did get them didn't you? hmmm...:shead: well let me know if you got it because other wise I'l need to speak with the mail lady at the office  any who, if you didn't get any please let me know and I'll send some your way :thumb: I agree with you richy, the worse they are the better the outcome, sure they take a bit of work but the end results are extremely rewarding, job well done richy :worship2:
richy that was a fantastic job but I expected no less when I saw the thread on the front page! Nice tip with the bug remover as lube and I too need to find a place to store that away in. Glad to see I have a compadre on here with the f'ed up cars man I need to get a great high end sports car to do like some of these guys always seem to get. Great work and I always learn something from your posts.
