If you don't cross contaminate with other waxes and have a dedicated pad for each wax, then I guess it should be okay as long as you mist the pad and make sure it's damp.
I wouldn't do it but that's me. I'll use the same applicator (unwashed) until I finish the tub of wax. The reason I do it is because the applicator is primed already since it absorbs the oils and wax from the previous applications. I noticed that when I use the same pad, not cleaned, the wax goes on easier and I don't have to swipe the tub as often as you would with a freshly clean pad. Just remember to store it in a ziplock bag so it doesn't dry out. I should've taken a pic of an old ccs applicator that I finally cleaned. It was loaded with wax. When I squeezed the pad the wax was seeping through my fingers. It would've shown how much wax you're wasting by washing everytime.
I've started cutting my yellow foam apps in half and then cutting it so it fits in the tin. I did that to my Zymol, RBOE and 476 containers. That way I don't have to keep track of where they are
sounds to me like you're talking about a paste wax. I always used to think it was a waste of wax washing the pad but I wash it every time. why take the chance of one peice of grit ruining what you have or what you did. I don't know why people wouldn't wash them everytime. You wouldn't use a MF towel twice with out washing it would you. Thats just me
good point.. but my pad some times gets alittle dirt on it .. but i do uee dedicated pads. 1 for my swissvax and one for my souveran
i wash mine too , cos it somehow ends up with some dirt or those "hairs" left behind from the sheepskin wool mitt .
wash and reuse them untill they become really dirty. Then just leave them to use as tire dressing applicators...
I wash applicators (inc wax / sealant) on the bais of a) cross contamination (b) if the product sets-up (clumps) within the foam it will cause micro-marring of the paint surface
Obviously good arguments both ways. I happen to wash mine after every car is complete even though I'm probably wasting some product because I like to start fresh with everything clean each time. G
This is a good thread. What I do is keep mine in a sandwich ziplock bag that I label; ie, I have one for DG 105, one for 601, one for 303, etc. Unless it gets dirty somehow, I keep re-using them and I find they are always pliable and I believe you use less product that way, because you are not wasting product with the applicator absorbing some on its own.
I was just kidding. I wash mine after every use to avoid having any little bits of wax dry on the applicator and cause me to have to repolish a panel
I always wash them after each use. The one time I did not I ended up with some nasty swirls from dried up wax on the pad. This stuff can be nasty, like grains of sand.
I always wash my foam applicators, depending on what I'm using they might get a bit dirty...but when I'm using foam applicators for wax I always wash them later. I too just like a nice clean applicator, just personal taste
so i guess i will not clean my wax pad. is this goes for polish and sealant and stuff or just for wax pad? i guess i would clean my polishing pads couse i noticed they get hard after like 20 min. but if you put it in ziplock bag so it doesnt dry out, would it work?
I wash mine by hand after letting them soak in Micro-Resto in a 5 gallon bucket for an hour or a day What ever they need...:thumb:
