Which one do you like best? I've had the passport 8500 x50 until last week. I just ordered a v1, but I might cancel due to all the reading I've done on the Passport 9500ix. A lot of guys on radar detector forums are swinging towards the 9500ix even the v1 guys.

    Thoughts and suggestions?

In my opinion, the best laser detector you have nowadays is is driving at the speed limit. Even when you're armed with the latest & greatest device, which may never be the case since these gizmos tend to get outdated the moment they get released, you;re always be driving on the edge with a higher than normal blood pressure & always on the lookout of not being caught by the cops............To me it's just not worth it.

Laser detectors are useless. Laser shoots an incredible small beam width and gives an instantaneous readout of the speed. It just tells you that you've been read, that's all. Ramsus is right, especially in Ontario where the 50 km/hr+ penalties are very harsh..and that includes Americans. You lose your car immediately at the side of the road and get a license suspension as well as get a fine that starts at $2000. Not to mention the extra gas you burn as well as the safety risk to you and your family. I did collision reconstruction for 4 years (investigate traffic deaths). I have seen too many instances where stupidity behind the wheel (not just speed) has cost lives and ruined others. Not to preach but this pisses me off.

A radar detector is only useful if you have someone ahead of you. I have a Bel RX65 and am satisfied with it. I never really go more than 5-10mph over the limit.

I will say that I would LOVE the ability to cancel out all the false alarms I know exist on my commute to and from work...4 lane with no suicide/holding lane. If I were to pick one up, it'd be the 9500ix over the V1 since I do more city driving.

I have a V1 (got it as a gift) and love it, i was so impressed with it both my parents bought them (my dad likes to drive fast on the highway). They have been impressed. I have in all honsty, becasue its a cool gadget. and I LOVE gadgets... i love toys adn its just another one

Before I sold my A6 last month, I had a V1 in both the A6 adn allroad hardwired into the map lights up above. To me, the things are money. I know the cops are there before they know I'm hauling a$$ up the highway. I don't see too much laser in St. Louis. But I have to agree with the others. It was too late to hit the brakes once it went off. I looked up and the cop already had me painted. He knew it, and he knew that I knew it, but I think he was looking for a bigger fish. As far as Ka band is concerned, it is worth every penny.

laser radars are not effective.. get a laser jammer. i have a beltronics which works great and laser jammer which is very effective on laser.

Yea, other than false alarm lockout which is a plus the V1 scored higher than the 9500i on just about every radar sensitivity test

I have a many-years-old V1 and I'm still thrilled with it. Consistently, on road trips, it's still the most sensitive detector in the packs I'm travelling with. I've not seen any real reason to upgrade from what I've got, although I've never owned any of the clever ones with the GPS stuff built into them.

It does false a lot, but I've got all the clever logic stuff turned off. I'd rather make my own mind up whether or not I think a signal is a real "threat" or just an automatic door somewhere.

Mostly though, I don't really speed all that much anymore. Years of driving huge diesel trucks (tow vehicles) sort of cured me of that habit.

I have the V1 and it's great. I did a lot of research before I bought it and I think it's the best one out there. Not to mention no matter how old it is you can always send it in to be upgraded to the latest one for the cost of shipping.

It costs to be upgraded. mine was 150 but changes depending on the unit.

less false alerts. Im a runner so the arrows dont matter to me depending on how fast Im going.

damn guys, whoever lives in canada must be saving tons of gas, here we dont drive less then 60mph on highway and over 30 in city,
i try to drive slow to save gas but sometimes you cant couse of traffic

lol! Don't worry, we aren't saving too much gas up here. Radar detectors just aren't as commom up here probably cause they are illegal many places or at least I think they are. If you do the speed limit especially on the highways you'll probably get run over.
I've driven all over the western half of the US and parts of the east and pretty much all parts of Canada and I didn't see much of a difference in our respective driving habits.
I've also driven through a big part of Europe. Mind you that was 25 years ago, but those folks know how to drive fast. I don't think speed is the biggest problem but stupidity and aggressive driving mixed with alcohol is.
Anyway, not a rant here, just didn't want you to think we were slow drivers. Hell, my 78 year old mother just got a speeding ticket for doing 70km in a 50km zone. Of course she denies it.
    Cheers, G
