applying wax by hand. marring problems?

i am hesitant to try RB OE on a car that i am going to detail this weekend because in the past whenever i apply a wax by hand i always somehow leave some micro-marring on the paint... is this normal and just something you have to deal with? or am i just not doing it correctly?

usually i put small amount into my hand (about the size of a pea) and rub it into my hnds a few times until it coats my hands. then i spread it on the paint until it doesn't spread anymore, and repeat.

 

I would never do it personally, but there are a lot of good detailers that swear by it.

 

I would never do that either. Now you're using the wax as hand cream and it's soaking into your skin and then your system. probably not a good thing. Besides that If you have rough skin you're probably going to mare the paint. We just talked about this on circles and back and forth. use an applicator and you won't have any worries. This is the only way that I could think of to try to help you...:shrug:

 

You don't have to use bare hands, JL's heated applicator method also works very well.

In fact applicator works fine, just make sure you give the wax a bit of a rub before diving in with the applicator, you'll also get a thinner coat that way. :thumb:

 

I do the same thing, makes it a bit more "liquid" on the top layer!

 

The most important thing you are doing with 'hand' application is 'heating' the wax so JL's heated applicator should work for those who would prefer not to directly handle wax


PS What is " JL's heated applicator?

 

Foam applicator heated by either the halogens, blowdryer or heatgun. Prolly just the 1st two.

I enjoy applying wax by hand, just love man handling the vehicles :wicked:

But depending on the clear coat, I wouldn't even attempt applying by hand...I'm referring to soft clear coats.

For the most part applying by hand works but if you don't do it right you'll use up allot of wax, it takes quite a bit of practice but it's tons of fun.

Any who applicator method works just as great.

 

The legendary JL of JLs Detailing, some say he snacks on raw carnauba. He was the first American to tame Original Edition by use of a heated applicator pad. :worship2:

 

Keep an eye on your applicator to make sure your car was 100% clean after washing. If you see an residual dirt on the application, that could be the cause for the marring.

If your car is clean and you are using a good applicator/wax, there shouldn't be much issue with marring.

 

i don't mean using an applicator, i meant actually putting the wax in your hands.

 

Um...this is what I do but again just me.

When I first start to apply the wax I prime my hands, meaning I scoop up quite a bit of wax...now don't go crasy or anything just a little bit more then usual and rub the wax in my hands. I rub my hands together till I feel the heat and the wax has spread all over my hands...that's what I call priming my hands.

After that you should use small amounts of wax but what I find helps is to keep the hands primed...but that's just me :shrug:

Like I said if your not carefull you can waist quite a bit of wax...but me personaly I don't mind wasiting some wax...specially Victoria..man that stuff feels good in your hads :druling:
