highline meter vs PosiTest DFT

Hi,

I was wondering, is the positest really worth 2x the price.

Also, does anybody know the % of error for the highline meter.

I just receive a email from the US distributor and he claim that the highline meter has a 1-3% of error.

I don't recall all the data on each, but when I researched them both the highline was the DEAL. I bought one and love it, so have many others.

That is what i heard also but i'm wondering how accurate is the highline.

For 280$ it look like a awsome deal.

 

hmmm...I'm quite pleased with the DFT, works well and I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for..but that's just me and I have been burnt on this believe about you get what you paid for in the past, so now I re-search as much as possible :shrug:

But to be honest I vaguely recall the Highline.

 

After thinking and speaking with the people at highline meter, i'll think i'll pull the triger on this one.

The highline has the same features but so much cheaper. I love my highline.

I think people need to look at the application abit more than the unit itself.
For example, the HL has resolution of .5 mil (this is based on what the seller claims, btw no accuracy number provided from mfg so for the sake of argument this is the accuracy number as well).
That's about .5 x 25.4micron ~ 12.7micron.

Now I know with my DFT on BMW paint 1-pass of Meg105 takes out about 4-5 micron, with HL you can't even tell cause the resolution is not very good.

I am very sure, for most part of detailing HL is more than enough. and DFT is much more $$$ cause it has better resolution and for sure better accuracy.
For me HL is would do but...

I just purchased the HL for $200 earlier today. I think I'll be happy with my purchase... for now, hehe.

 

I have researched these in the past, and understand the applications and capabilities, but I must admit I do not fully understand all of the technical aspects of the units. More specifically, I am not really sure what you mean when you refer to the "resolution" of the unit.

Do you mean how close of a measurement it can provide? I'm guessing so.

That said, for someone who would be using this unit to determine if they are within a "safe" range to buff on newer clear coated, as well as old school single stage cars would this unit be safe and reliable? That's all I care about...

Yep, you are correct. It's like going up stairs, the HL has steeper and fewer steps while DFT less steeps but more steps.

The question is when you have to work on customer cars where some part of the hood says 80micron while the rest of the car is 120-140. Can you go ahead do power glos/Meg105 to chase down deep swirl on the hood?. I'll trust DFT in this case but if the rest of the car is very uniform at 120-140 I'll use either one just to see how much I take off.
