I have seen many carwash shops with disclaimers on the walls before you enter:

"This carwash will not be held liable for any theft, damage to property.......etc"

I was just wondering if any of you guys have your client sign anything that legally protects you against anything that may go wrong during the detailing process?

I know this may protect you, but I think it would also scare clients that trust you are a pro.

if a client leaves their car with me, i always make sure to check the odometer, and take a picture of it, so the customer cant accuse me of driving their car. I also tell them the mileage as well at the time of dropoff.

I don't make them sign anything since to me that seems a little less than professional. I do however take detailed pictures of the interior before I move anything to protect me at least a little bit. This way if they say something is missing from a certain place, I have the proof that it was never there.

What I usually do is after washing/drying, vacuum the trunk first. Then move everything from the interior into the trunk. Little items go in Ziploc freezer bags. I've had clients call looking for stuff and all I had to say was look in your trunk. Done.

I have my clients sign the check-in sheet whenever they drop off their cars or I come by for a mobile detail. I also have them sign the invoice, agreeing that they are content with the services rendered.

Do an inspection with your customer, full walk around.. Fully inspect every inch of the surfaces. Document every inclusion, that way there will be documented proof of what was there before you started.. doing this also opens the door to sell your talents.. For instance a person just wants a wash and wax, you do your walk around, and point out the marring, scratches, etching etc that is where you have a chance to tell them what you can do about it, next thing you know your W&W just turned into something much more.. If not, all the inclusions are documented and they sign it so you are protected.
