Put a couple of pretty nasty scrapes in the rear bumper wrap around on my 2006 Carrera S. Took it to a highly recommended body shop (they do lots of Porsches, BMWs, Mercs etc). I even took the bumper valance off for them. It came back full of fish eyes and other defects. Took it back to them and they said they really needed the piece on the car to properly color sand and buff it out. OK--I re-installed the piece and took the car to them. Was told that everything that didn't need sanding and buffing would be masked off. I reminded them that NO OTHER AREAS needed to be touched! Of course, of course we understand, blah, blah, blah, blah. I hung around and took a peak and saw that they had not only NOT masked the un-repaired areas, but had proceeded to buff the engine lid via DeWalt rotary and HEVY wool pad and compound  :loud: :yikes: Here's what I was shown as my "finished" car! :gasp: Remember, this area needed no repair, and this is what I saw And this And this It took me a good week to cool down enough to correct it and bring it to this Needless to say, I'm giving this shop LOTS of free publicity. Oh, they were "kind" enough to refund the color sand and buffing cost! Process: SIP via white LC pad/Metabo. 85RD/black LC pad, Swisswax Cleaner Fluid, Swisswax Concorso. I used a mixture of distilled water, alcohol and ONR to clean the Carrera script area and then applied some IZ Paint Polish inside the script areas by hand, then some CG WMF and then the Swisswax products. Used Q-tips and tightly folded MFs to remove product and clean up remaining resdidue. :crasy:
Once again painters prove that all they should be doing is painting. I did a correction job on a SSR Show car after a painter had wetsanded but not polished out all the scratches. After he paid the painter, he paid me well over $1000 to fix it. Thats nuts!!
Oh, this wasn't the painter! This was their "detail" guy. They offered to correct it for me. To which I replied, you think I'm going to let your goons touch my car again? I'm still more than PO'd about the whole thing.
:shakehead: :shakehead: I've seen the so called "detailers" at body shops hard at work and they aren't even close to the meaning of the word detailing. Shame what happened to your vehicle uzj100 :comfort: But at least you were able to repair the dealerships "craftsmanship" :shakehead: By the way, did you take paint gauge readings? Just curious.
No, I didn't take readings. I carefully taped the edges and used NO pressure --in fact I even lifted the machine a bit. I just took my time and really focused on correcting the paint. The SIP/white worked very well. I only had to make two passes on the scratched area below the Carrera script. The other areas cleaned up with one pass. I actually think I could have applied the LSP after the SIP/white combination, but OCD guy that I am, I just had to go over everything with the 85RD. You would "ban" me, if I just did a one step, right:mounty:
Joe, nice work you should go back and show them how to do it. then give him your bill for consulting.
LOL I have seen detailers/ body men leave behind much much worse.... This is a G I did a while back. Look at the quality work they do! Crisp Clear reflections.. I am not sure why the owner let them get away with it but ah well. had to break out the 2500 grit to
Sneek. Incredible turn around! My re-painted area looked about like that. However, in "fairness" to the body shop, they corrected what they re-painted. My gripe is the "buffing" of the non-repainted (un-damaged) area. Just plain carelessness that over shadows an otherwise good repair job. They're getting plenty of "advertising" at PCA events I attend!
Sneek, good thing you said that was paint in those pictures, looks like cheap vinyl seats if i didn't know better.
I come behind paints all the time and make them look real good. Take a look at the blue Camaro. PERFECT2's photosets on Flickr
LOL I guess there are a TON of bad painters out there. Someone just backed into my car today but it is a really small spot. I know about 5 good body shops in the city, but I don't know if it is worth fixing because the spot is so small. mannnnn this sucks At least it was the 03 and not the 08. I might have attacked someone if it was the 08
they are educated and "certified"...I have that certified word...it means absolutely no experience, because it there would have been, it would of been mentioned...
