How to get website to appear on search engines??

I would like to know the tips/tricks on how to get my website to appear on search engines...

The key words I used as my "meta tags" are not doing me any good...

Jason..call me when you get a chance. 1and1 has a service to submit your page to search engines (SEO), plus you should have some google ads credit with 1and1.

Also, change the title to something like

Auto Detail in (city name, state) - Deep Gloss Auto Salon (if that all fits fits)

Also submit free ads in:

yellowbook.com
superpages.com
yourcity.citysearch.com
google maps
yahoo maps
switchboard.com
magicyellow.com
etc.


I'm not sure how applicable this is....but I read also name your pages with key words, and use key words and phrases in your content. I think you are using the default numbers that the website builder package gave you. You will get more hits based on keywords if the page is named deep-gloss.com/carcare.htm vs. deep-gloss.com/8.htm

That is very interesting I want to set up a website myself and in the process of trying to find a way to start creating it. With just my average computer skills it is defentily going to be a project. How did you create your site if you don't mind me asking?

 

Jason and I both use 1and1.com for domain registration and web hosting. They have a site builder tool that is very easy to use, however it can be limited to what theme/style/colors you want to use but the layouts are nice. Check them out.


Also if you don't mind.....if you decide to go with them please let Jason or I know before you sign-up, I think we can get some referral credit or something.

You need to have good SEO( search engine optimization) THe way your links work the way you place text on your website etc.
SEO is exteremely expansive.

If you really want to get yourself out there and be on top of the search engines, you might have to pay a little bit for that. But just think about the return on that investment!

 

Dang, I just signed up with 1and1 about a month ago. Their website builder is alright but I feel like I'd be better off using something like Dreamweaver CS3. Think any of you web guys could help me out? I'm still learning the ropes, hehe.

Build your site using Dreamweaver and just upload the files via ftp to 1and1, you don't have to use their website builder.

see what comes back, mine has 182 pages identified so far AND is growing exponentially (not too bad for a site that only physically has 15 pages)

OBVIOUSLY, this list can also be supplemented by every make and model of car you can think of ALONG with generic detailing terms (Wax, wash, polish etc etc)
The biggest thing you have to do is get content on your site and links into it
IF you could create a separate page with each of these separated towns or whatever for your website along with other customized tags specifically for you both in the URL and the "Meta Tags", you'd find yourslef getting listed in the google pages!
REMEMBER, even if you don't service these areas directly, you might know someone who does, referrals work great AND they are generally bi-directional

This thread is almost a month and a half ago now, but since it came up again...

Jason, we've seen your work and you are one of the best. As you remember, my wife was saying the website really needed a complete overhaul (in order to get the results you desire). And equally important, you should have it done by somebody good in order to match the level of professionalism your work proves you exube. However, she just checked and found there are improvements now, so bravo!

If it were me, I would be overwhelmed by all the meta tags, html, codes, optimization, etc. for DIY web building. Luckily my wife was a good DIY'er and did a lot of it. We were able to bypass paying someone (for this business anyway) though we considered it. But we found my wife was just as good if not better than half the ones out there.

Anyway, here are her suggestions now (because dude, your work deserves to advertised!):

1. In your title put in the most used search words such as "Auto Detailing". For that there is an average of 110,000 searches per month! So that needs to be there even before the name of your company (even though to us it seems so generic and overused).

2. You need to list your target cities in your title, and if there are a lot of cities that you service, put the target cities in the title, but list the rest of them somewhere else on your website as well.

Combining Points #1 and #2 here is the most common searches: 1. Auto Detailing 2. City

Contrarily, having "Auto Salon" in the title is not near as desirable, since that is searched only 2.900 times per month. It's the name of your company, but you can have the welcome, which includes that, after a brief description of what you do that contains more commonly used search words. And "Southeast Michigan" is rarely searched either, so that is why a listing of target cities is more desirable in your title. Hope that makes sense.

3. Go to kijiji usa and sign up with them. It's a free advertising site that ranks high with google (optimizes google searches). We've had many calls directly from this.

Very cool. Congrats. It sure made a difference in how many calls we are getting from our site once we got the right search words. (I think we got 4 calls this week so far) My wife says you still have to monitor how high it comes up on the search engines because they constantly change. So if it starts to drop down then tweak it again.
