the economy is doing great!!!???

as i go to dunkin donuts everyday for coffee. i see the lines out the door!. and when i go for lunch eaither at a pizza place of bagel store its packed!! as well as resturants i attend sometimes!!. it doesnt seem like the food business. is doing bad. i even talked to the owner of the bagel store near me . and he says his business is doing great!!!! in fact they remodeled the store and put in 4 plazma tv menus!!!.

 

Im really honestly surprised to hear this because there just isnt near as much money to go around as there used to be even a couple of years ago....but people have to eat right, and groceries have even gone up, so maybe eating "out" is the way to do it!

 

Hmm, well I guess donuts aren't that expensive to pay for but they aren't that healthy for you.

It seems the food industry is doing decent, not extraordinary, but decent.

 

it seems we d rather cut back on alot of things. but eating out isnt one of them it seems .

 

its such a sad time for some dealerships in my area though. you drive by the hummer dealer and there all standing around outside smoking. no ones buying large trucks/suvs.
somethings got to happen. this fuel prices are nutts.

 

dunkin isnt that cheap. i see poeple on line ordering all these special capachinos(sp). there like 5 6 bucks each. us americans just love to stuff our fat faces what can i say:yikes:

 

Very true. Clothing retail in 'mom and pop' stores has screwed my family.

 

the grocery store is the only place we have not cut back at, yet. otherwise eating out at night has been cut back from 2 to 1 night, eating out for lunch has been cut back from 4 to 1, specialty coffee is cut back from 5 per week to 2.

but honestly, it's not the economy that's the impetus. its my daughter's soon departure for her freshman year in college. ah, the joy of parenthood and higher education.

 

The fuel prices will go down, but not this year for sure!

 

a lot of restaurants in my area are not as busy as they used to be anymore. I remember having to be there around 11:30 for lunch otherwise you'll have a hard time to find parking or having to wait to be seated. Now I can get there by 12:15 and still plenty of parking and never have to wait anymore...

 

oh and it has been a long while since I have to wait in line to get into the movie theaters. then again, maybe just haven't have any good movies out...

 

I work for Pillsbury/ General Mills and our business hasn't slowed down at all. I'm working 7 days a week for the next 2 weeks so far. Gotta love it!!

 

I used to eat out a lot, but those days have gone. Now we make good food at home. Also, I used to eat out for lunch. No more! I bring my own lunch to work now and it's a lot healthier.

The market is in a real pooper right now and we have to make sacrifices. It will turn around, but who knows when? I am still up on my stocks, but for how long? In any regard, I'm not selling now. If I have to hold on to them for another 5 years, then so be it.

If there is one thing all you Americans need to know, it's that you need to SAVE YOUR MONEY and don't live off credit.

My parents always taught me that if you cannot afford it, don't buy it. A house would obviously be an exception to that rule.

 

Yep, houses are really cheap now and they're still kind of going down! The unfortunate thing is that there are more stringent requirements in order to qualify for loans but then again you have to think that the amounts being borrowed are far less than before, at least in California anyways.

 

I think you guys have a much better loan rent/interest then us! Here its up to 6.80% now.

 

Yes, I would have to agree with P1et, well said buddy :chest:

Way too many people are spending money that they don't have and when things get tough well people suffer.

We just purchased our new house and it was quite the deal we got for such a gorgeous house, I can't complain but the market isn't want it used to be. I mean the house I purchased I should have paid more then I did but I'm not complaining but then again when we sold our house we made some profit from it but not as much, but that's fine with me :shrug:

As for restaurants and so on things haven't really slowed down here in Canada, if anything the slump has helped level prices out, which is a good thing because for a bit prices here were extremely high.

This may be a bit harsh but I'm enjoying this slump, investing as much as I feel comfortable and purchasing as much property as I can get my hands on :thumb: but at the same time I feel bad for people that are struggling through these hard times, wish them the best eace:

LOL from what i noticed places in Calgary are getting busier.
I am with Nica and P1et, in not spending beyond my means, although I am pretty young so I am okay.

Real estate seems to low right now, so my dad is thinking about something in scotsdale. Houses used to cost wayyy more, and they were beyond our means, but now my dad is thinking of picking up a golfing property haha.

 

good for them. Republicans think they can make more money by raising prices up...and now less and less people are buying GM vehicles...If this continues, Toyota will buy GM in a year or two, and will stop them from making rubbish vehicles, that even their own workers don't want to buy with all the discounts they get...GM just gets uglier and uglier...

And by the way, I'm a democrat, a hardcore democrat...:hippie:

 

Kind of funny that you mentioned this because our family just picked up a Toyota Tacoma for our new business vehicle, hehe. I just got the approval from the parents to have a full detail done on the Tacoma! :headbang:

 

That's why i Package food products and not electronics or that b/c everyone HAS to eat!!! so the market is very steady.. people aren't gonna be buying a million's of ipods in JAN/FEB like they do in NOV/DEC.. there are hot times for computer/electronic buying, auto's, you name it.. but food is always in NEED.
