i noticed when i was polishing yesterday with my pc for the first time the rotation would work fine but the pad would barely spin. is it supposed to spin? i was just practicing with the foam pad it came with and a terry cloth bonnet. i was using 3m perfect it compound. it took alot of stuff out of the hood. but i was just wondering if that was the norm for a pc.

Yes this is normal your pc just orbits as where a rotary spins and heats up.

I prefer 5.5'' pads on my UDM (and PC when i had it) as it seems to cut faster using smaller pads for me (LC pads that is).

+1 times a thousand... anything larger than 5.5 on a PC only frustrated me.. I simply did not have the patience

The PC jiggles. Somehting like a Flex DA is forced rotation.

Non 'powered' DA machines (unlike the flex mentioned above) should really rotate about 1-2 times per second. A little mark on the backplate or on the top of the pad should help you to gauge how fast it's actually turning. You can only really regulate the speed at which it rotates by adjusting the pressure, but I know exactly what you mean - sometimes to get it to spin you need to almost lift it off the surface but then there's not sufficient pressure to do any meaningful work. Apply the required force and it tends to stop turning - it's a tricky one, for sure :shead:.
