OK a little background on this detail. I did a vehicle for a friend of ours at our bank. She was telling one of the other ladies there about it and she said she needed to see it. Well when she saw my friends car she said "Now thats what a detail is suppose to look like". She went to my website saw my work and gave me a call to set up an appointment. She said the MR2 had not been detailed in 4 years since she left Alabama to move here. She had a guy that did it on a regular basis for her there but here she had not found anyone she trusted to do it. Well this was my chance to impress her and become "her guy here in NC". So here's what I did:

Tires/Wheels: I used Megs Wheel Brightner on the wheels with a Griots wheel scrub, Black Magic Wheel brush bent to 90 degrees (for getting behind the spokes), Swissvax wheel brush, and a lug nut brush. The tires got Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff and so did the wheel wells. Both were cleaned with a Black Wheel Shmitt. The tires were dressed with a base coat of Majestic Solutions Super Dress All and half a Cobra Tire Applicator and then topped with CGs VRP with the other half of the applicator. The wheels were coated with what was left of the Zaino ZFX'd Z2 Pro (I guess you know what my LSP was) and buffed off with a general purpose MF. Wheel wells were dressed with CGs Bare Bones.

Engine: The engine got the old faithful of rinse, spray down with MS SGS, agitate, rinse, dry with leaf blower, and dress with Stoners Trim Shine.

Convertible Top: I rinsed the top and sprayed it down with 303 Convertible Top cleaner. I scrubbed it in with a brush and left it on while I foamed the rest of the car. It was then washed with CGs CWG and the brush. Rinsed and after drying it was protected with 303 Protectant.

Wash: I used my CR Spotless System (I couldn't detail without this now) and my foam cannon (wouldn't know how to detail without this either) and a rinse bucket. I used CGs CWG and a grout sponge. All the lower panels were pretreated with MS SGS and bugs got MS Bug Off and a MS bug sponge. Rinsed with the CR Spotless and let it air dry while I shampooed and extracted the floor mats. Man its nice to let Mother Nature dry the car and not worry about water spots.

Clay: I used the good stuff with DP 4n1 as a clay lube in a hand held pressurized sprayer. Then I rinsed again with the CR.

Trim: All the black grill like areas on the car got Stoners Trim Shine and so did the spare tire area under the front hood (engine is in the back).

Glass: All glass inside and out got CGs Glass Cleaner with a Black Magic Glass MF and dried off with a Walmart WW. The back plastic "glass" got DP Plex-All and buffed off with a MF.

Interior: The entire interior was wiped down with 1z Cockpit Premium. I do love this stuff as it cleans well and leaves behind a new clean look. The leather seats were cleaned with Pinnacle Leather Cleaner and Conditioned with Wolfgang Leather Conditioner. Shop vac was used to vacuum everything. Man I love doing the interiors on a 2 seater!:headbang:

Paint: The paint had some very minor swirling that with the color of the paint and how minor it was made it hard to see unless you caught it in the sun just right. I used my DFT Combo paint gauge and got readings throughout the car in the 120 micron area. There were a few bad areas like on the hood where someone tried to touch up a spot about 2" long and you could see the sanding marks around it as it made the paint seem a lot lighter. Here are a before and after pic but its hard to see the scratches in the before:

You can see it a little better in the straight on pics of the car later. On the rough spots I used the Metabo and an orange 5" LC CCS pad and Menzerna Intensive Polish. For the rest of the car I used the Metabo and 3M Ultrafina with a 5" LC CCS black pad. I really love Ultrafina and have had nothing but great success with it. Heck my bottle of Menz. 85RD is feeling mighty neglected since Ultrafina came along. After the Ultrafina I buffed it off with a CGs black and yellow MF. Next I did a wipe down with Zaino Z6 and a Cookie Monster MF.

LSP: I decided to get the chemistry set out and ZFX some Zaino Z2 Pro. I applied the first coat with a 4" blue LC CCS pad and a Polishing Pal. I buffed it off with a CGs yellow and black and did another wipedown with Z6. Next another coat of Z2 Pro was applied the same way and buffed off the same way. After about an hour after buffing off the 2nd coat of Z2 Pro I did a wipe down with Z8. I really love the way the car came out and it was super super slick. I have really gotten to love Zaino, so thanks gmblack3 for letting me try some out and hooking me!

Well the owner saw it and just flipped with joy. She was so excited she asked me to take care of it for her on a regular basis! Man I can't wait to get it again. Here are some before and afters:

Thanks so much Corey. Man I have really fallen in love with Ultrafina. Its the first finishing polish I reach for now and my 85RD is feeling neglected but man Ultrafina is such a pleasure to work with.

Thanks bro, I tell you that paint was really looking good in the direct sun and the best parts about it in the direct sun was that the swirls were gone!

Thanks Nica I think it was a 2002, I'm pretty sure about that. Not sure what Toyota called the color but its like an Ice Blue to me. Owner was in Alabama when she purchased it and to get that color she had to go to Atlanta to get it. Oh and surprisingly it was a really fun car to drive.

Thanks Deep Gloss Auto Salon! I really appreciate it and thanks for the help on deciding on LSP. I forgot to put that in the write up but Jason got a call from me mid-detail to help me choose between two LSPs. You did a great job deciding:thumb:.

Thanks Asphalt! Thanks for the rotary help as I'm getting some really good results now.

Thanks. Not sure about the pics though as they are like I always post:shead:.

Thanks man thats my favorite too!

Thanks you taught me almost everything I know.

JL..no wonder she was delighted..just imagine how she would have been with a NICE colour on that car!! :p: Your process delivers great results. I want to try Ultrafina but have micro polish, 85rd, and 106 to use up 1st. I get pretty decent results with them anyway, so who knows what will be on the market by then anyway. Again, great job, bud!!

Thanks bro, I am so glad to be finally getting the hang of the rotary. I am always amazed at how good Ultrafina can make the paint look.

Thanks pirex I have to keep improving with the rotary but so far I'm getting pretty good results!

richy you are talking to a NC State Wolfpack fan about the color. The car is almost the same color as States rival in sports so you can imagine I don't care for it very much, LOL! Thanks for the compliments and if you get to use Ultrafina I know you would love it and get some phenomenal results!

Cooter you are so right man word of mouth has brought me most of my clients. Most of the time when you get someone through word of mouth they have heard about your work and are already excited when they hand the keys over! Thanks:headbang:

Thanks joe p. and you are right the cars are really fun to work on.
