im an amature film maker, well atleast try to be. Right now I just use a cheap 200buck camcorder that my little sis has (i know im that cool), it is a basic point and click but it does the job.
I am getting more serious into film making and think its time i ugrade to my own camera. I am looking at getting an hd camcorder. i figure the technology is there so why not use it?

I have been doing some reading, looking on ebay, and am lost.

What do i want to look for? any good brands or spefic cameras to look into?

Any info on selecting an hd camcorder would be great

    thanks very much

I have the same Canon that Carlos has, even after looking online it says its the "best" (in its price range) but honestly I wasnt impressed. Its nothing like the HD you think of when people say "high def"

Depends on what lence you use and if you photoshop the image to give it better quiality.

I would say NIKON D series are best in it's class

going from $500 and up if you want to spend around 800 bucks get the D60 if you want to spend less get the D40 series.

    Cant beat hose cameras.

I think he's referring to a canon HD Video Camera, not a digital SLR.

I don't know I'm very pleased with my camcorder, I can't complain about it's quality...but I kinda wish I went with the other camcorder I was looking at..different price range though more like in the $3,000.00 range.

Thanks everyone for the help, the camera i was looking at turned out to be a not so great deal.
I did soe searching on ebay and found what i wanted

    here it is

    JVC Everio GZ-HD3 3CCD 60GB HDD Hi-Def (HD) Camcorder - (eBay.ca item 230255980185 end time 29-May-08 01:12:33 EDT)

Its a JVC Everio GZ-HD3 HHD.... i got a good deal (well i think it is) at 645. The camcorder info site said the big issue was the price at 1000-1400 so i figure cut the price down and life is good.... so im happy. Hopefully I will get my camera soon and start making some films

Yup, thats the one..but now that I have it I sure wished I went with my original choice..the Sony one would have been much, much better..but at least that gives me an excuse to purchase another one now.

But I have to admit, this HG10 is not bad at all. It gets the job done just fine.
