Most missed areas !!!

Most missed areas.

I have a few friends that I detail with from time to time and I guess I could refer to them as “semi-professional”. All of them are very proficient with the rotary, and can cut a polish out a black car as good as anyone I know, just at a much slower pace. As far as areas these detailers seem to miss, these are the most common I find when detailing with them:

Glass around tight areas and corners.
Door jamb inside the b-pillar. (Most commonly missed).
Truck jamb around trunk strut.
Wheel wells not entirely cleaned.
Center console, particularly inside crevices.
Carpet area under the rear window.
Rear cup holders.
Wheels particularly around the lug nuts.
Area inside engine bay just beneath the wipers. (I hate finding debris there).
Underside of the hood/trunk.


I sometime miss one of these areas myself and usually (hopefully always) discover them on my final walk around, but these are some basic pet peeves I find to be quite common.

What areas of an auto detail to be the most missed?

 

between the headrest and the seatback, and bugs on the rear speaker deck.

 

Inside gas fill area gascap fill door etc under the sideview mirrors and the tight area around the trunk near the back window when trunk is open.

Hands down inside the gas cap door.

 

The sides of a tailgate on a truck and the side pillars the gate closes to...

using metal polish on stainless antenna...

trunk jambs, wheel wells, inside sunroof glass, tailpipes, not dressing the part of the tire that is nearest the ground (have to move the car forward or backwards to get 100% coverage), trims not adressed such in cowl area, and almost everyone I know misses around/underneath the license plates (or frame, if applicable).

Definitely the roof on the inside. I have yet to see someone even look at it. You'd be surprise how much grime you can remove from this area even if it looks clean.

under the side mirror...inside gas cap....i pretty much do a walk through and do as best as i can but i just wish i can remove the side mirror..

 

ya i agree, i was just going to say behind the side mirrors. what i do to get at it, is raise the mirror all the way up so i can get my fingers in to do a polish.

 

These are all very good... taking steps like these are what elevates you to the Autopian standard..... IMO if you have trouble remembering ANY of these items you should have a check list printed out to take with you on each and EVERY job...

I'll bite:

move the side view mirrors to vaious positions to thoroughly clean and protect.. when you move the mirror to a new position some of the housing that you did not get to becomes exposed

Remove head rests to polish the posts

Not only the pedals but the metal they are attached to

The area that becomes exposed once you open the sun roof (the slide area)

DOOR JAMBS!!! I mean steam those suckers!! I hate seeing ANY grease in my jambs

The spare tire area...

The seat tracks.

 

And customers actually wonder why it takes so long to detail a car properly!

 

Seat moldings and under where the seat belt returns

 

e-brake and shift boot/track, inside side of front seats, andsides of rear fold down seats

 

between the sideview mirror glass and the housing of the mirror.

 

the gap in the side mirrors.. the grille in the front

the area bside the rear license plate.

I'm saying this without looking, but don't seat tracks have some type of grease/lubrication on them? What do you clean them with?
