Carlos, it seems alot of people have trouble with a cars curves, if you can, and if you get this in time, see if you can do a curvy section for everyone.

Ah yes, good point getcha :thumb: curves can be a bit tricky but what kind off curves do you mean. Do you mean fender curves or do you mean hood edges or like curves from a Porche (by the head lights)? This weekend I got a Nissan Ultima to do and they do have some nice curves and some edges too.

I just want to make sure I know what you'r refering to that's all :eace: thank you for the tip though very good point.

:gasp: really Metabo just sitting in it's box oh come on get that bad boy out of the box and on to the surface of a vehicle it's really easy...you'll see.

Trust me guys if I can use the rotary any one can, I remember when I started I was so scared of the machine it was kinda funny lol. I honestly thought the rotary was going ot bite me, you laugh but I'm serious lol.

Hopefully with the videos I'll make this weekend it will help show how easy the rotary really is...I just hope the videos turn out good :shead: :shead:

Just finished an 11 hour job on a 750 BMW and I have to say the polishing w. my flex is way to time consuming, job shouldn't have taken 11 hours. It needed some correction and I went with SIP but it needed multiple passes and the deeper stuff was very tough to get out, some did and some didnt come out. The Makita is looking pretty good right now. For heavy correction of course the rotary wins hands down but Im Curious about polish breakdown times between the Flex and a Makita (or any rotary), could 106 or SIP breakdown significantly quicker using a rotary compared to the Flex?

Well I was able to make a few videos on the Nissan I was working on, just doing some conversion as my camcorder is one of those HD ones and long story short I need to convert it to something that can be viewed by everyone...any who, I'll be creating the video section shortly and loading up the vidoes I made.

One thing to note though is that, detailing is subjective to personal style/taste...so I do things one way, it works for me but it may not work for some of you..so just keep that in mind.

Any who, I'll be posting them up within a day or two :peace:

When I first started experimenting with the rotary about ten years ago I bought the Rightlook series and bought just about every book and video ever written about auto detailing. I found that although watching a professional use a rotary is helpful nothing compares with hands on training. Here is what I suggest when first starting out with the rotary polisher:

Get a hold of some old panels (preferably flat black) from a local salvage yard. I taught my younger brother how to buff with a Dewalt 849 about five years ago on nothing but black cars. His first complete exterior detail was on his mother-in-laws Black Mercury Grand Marquis. Although I was with him the entire time, he did all the hands on work and it took him an entire Saturday (8 hours) to complete. She was very happy with the results !!! :thumb: Although he is not a paid professional, he is confident enough in his skills to pick up his Porter Cable rotary in a moments notice and lend me a helping hand whenever I need him. He still uses the rotary machine on his own personal cars and for various friends and family.

See if a local professional ( maybe a DB member) will let you watch and learn some techniques and also if if possible let you do some buffing under their guidance.

Offer to practice on some older daily driver cosmetically challenged cars of friends and relatives, but use caution and tape off areas you are uncomfortable with (trim and edges). GO SLOW and experiment with the least abrasive products and pad selection first. TAKE YOUR TIME !!!

Videos are a great training aids, but nothing compares with hands on training. Once you develop a feel for the machine you will be surprised how efficient the machine can be at removing paint defects. Its is not as hard as it looks, but remember to use caution and do not rush the job !!!

    MOST IMPORTANT !!! PRACTICE !!! PRACTICE !!! PRACTICE !!!

Most professionals like myself will be the first to admit that they have made mistakes with the rotary when first starting out. I replaced the side molding on an Acura MDX years ago at the tune of $400 plus dollars. I went after a scratch that was close to the trim, and did not take the time to tape off. Careless mistake !!! :sorry: These lessons are the ones that stick with you !!! :shakehead: So take you time !!!

    Good Luck !!!
