I've been contemplating getting one for awhile now. I've been reading and searching, but havent found any (maybe I suck at searching). Also, what pads are you guys using? I have a bunch of 6.5" ones. Would those be too aggressive opposed to the 5.5?

I've been thinking of creating a section for how to videos for the rotary and other tools that I got...well still contemplating it so bare with me.

As for pads, there is nothing wrong with 6.5" pads they work fine. I personaly like the 5, 5.5 and 6 inch pads. I personaly fel that I get better control but that's just my opinion.

    Hope this helps.....a little.

Search on Youtube. There are some videos of Mike Pennington form Meguiars on there. He goes over wetsanding then how to use a rotary buffer. Its a pretty good video.

6.5" pads aren't bad. When you are starting out 8" is definitely a handful. I don't know if there are any really good videos out there, but I have been using the rotary for quite a while, and I find that I am still learning. There will aways be new products and techniques to use them. So I think you just want to learn how to control the rotary so it doesn't pull and skip all over the place. I would probably just get some scrap panels to try out, some hands on action will help you greatly.

A video section is a great idea. I'd love to see the correct techniques in a video. I think it would give me more confidence in stepping up to a rotary.

I've got a few that I've done of my self to help my self...I've got a few videos that might help though, the thing is that it would be great to have a bunch of videos from other members because there really is no right and wrong. We each have our own preference/taste and that is shown on the videos as well. Well at least I will be able to record three members working on the rotary so that will be good.

I'll do my best with the "Video section". Stay tooned for this section.

Videos are great, they help build confidence and give you an idea as to where to start or what to expect, I know I've learned plenty from a bunch of videos floating in the net.

All I want to know is proper rotary technique, I bought the "Buffing with Confidence" DVD and was less than impressed. It was very basic and really didnt show much in the way of proper rotary polishing, correcting and breakdown. Waste of $50:shakehead:

Really, you thought the Buffing With Confidence DVD was a waste? I too purhcased it and I thought it was okay, it wasen't advanced and it was a bit vague but I picked up a few tricks from it...actually that's where I learned to pick up polish set on the surface of the vehicle, Kevins technique on the lower panels is interesting too. Not the way I do it but I thought it was interesting.

I thought the video was gueared for beginers though, I mean extremely beginers..meaning no PC experiance, let alone rotary experiance....but that's just my opinion

You are correct, the video did show me a great technique for the lower panels, and how to pick up a bead but I felt it was for beginners as well. I had already been using my Flex for quite a while so I wasnt exactly starting fresh when I watched the DVD. Still for $50 i was expecting a thorough rotary polishing course or something. Maybe my expectations were too high.

Agreed, If there was a full on strictly rotary based DVD that covered everything you needed to get started safley I would order a Makita from DD in a heartbeat. (Phil you could do a lot of rotary buisness if a good DVD came out soon:giggle:)

 yes I agree with you, I felt the same way after watching it a few times....I too felt I set my expectations to high for it

But for those that don't have a clue what detailing is all about, I'd recomend it :thumb:

Can do buddy, can do. I've got a few videos but no talking just polishing and dosen't really show the products broken down that's why I haven't posted them as they would only bring up more questions lol.

This weekend I'm on my own so I'll have lots of time to detail a vehicle, I'll try to do a vide for you guys...I've got all the equipment and I should have the time as well so I'll try to creat a few videos...I'll do my best, hopefully you guys will like them.
