Care for matte black paint?

Isn't the matte finish the result of it having a matte clear coat? That was my understanding.

I would figure that the black paint underneath is probably the same as usual.

So, for example, wouldn't polishing a matte clear coat like you would a normal gloss clear coat tend to remove its matte properties?

IDK. For some reason this just seems odd to me.

Good call hahaha I didn't realize the matte was in the clear!

I think the matte is in the base and clear. I would not think polishing would make it shiny or wetter looking. It would just make it clearer and defect free.
They have matte or satin paint at lowes (I know different paint) that you can get. I just painted some furniture with satin black and it worked nice. Now I have satin clear on it and it doesn't have the gloss that I was avoiding. I would assume auto paint would be about the same.
That matte finish looks nice but also looks like you can write on it with chaulk.

Hmmm... I have a friend who's painted his Audi S4 Matte Black, with a gloss black stripe down the middle...

I'll ask him, but I doubt he'll have any answer, he's not the detailing type...

Matte black paint and clear coat, you detail the matte CC as usual. A clear coat is there to protect the pigmented coat; be it a gloss or matte and let it show through (nearly wrote ‘shine’ through ;) A matte clear / pigment paint system needs protection the same way we have come to expect of a gloss, except it doesn’t shine

I didn’t think I would appreciate this pigment effect, but that Ferrari looks outstanding… mmm

Seems like there are a few ways to have a car look like its is wearing just primer or matte finsh look. the matte finsih i know of is just flat black paint and on 50s rat rods it would be just tinted primer so dont do anything till you know exactly what your working on.

Hmmmm, how about a gallon of Optimum Protectant Plus and a handheld pressure sprayer? I'm trying to think of how I'd care for my Matte Black helmet.

    :p:
