ive noticed over the years at all the car shows i go to . also car show on tv like dream car garage/ my classic car.so on and so forth . i never see anyone useing the products that we use. there all useing store bought crap like turtlewax and mequiers. i bring up the names of waxes i use at car shows and therelike whats that? never heard of that name .
I don't know what "mequiers" is. But, yes, I think they all use crap. I saw it a Pebble Beach and the Greenwich Concourse
Tommy I am sure some do. Look at Toto and all the other detailiers on here. I am sure a lot of the cars at shows are done my dealerships and we all know what great work they do :thud: The ones on TV are most likely paid to use the Meg's name IMO  Meg's has the bucks to promote the shows
i know some car collectors, they always tell me its easier to repaint... but alot of people dont know or dont want to spend the money. They figure it wont help... we are def a diffrent group of people
depends. the car collectors i know collect and resotore classics and brass era cars. If the car is orginal they will not do anything to the paint, they will not even wash it ...ok well they will wash it but wont wax it or anything. if it needs a repaint then they will, and once its repainted once it dosent loose value by repainting again. lots of those cars get repainted every 10-15 years...
One thing they might be looking at is if it's worthwhile to spend the money on this level of detailing when the cars are under harsh lighting to begin with, and there are lots of people bumping into, sliding against, and rubbing the cars. When I worked at Mercedes, half the Benz's at the Calgary International show came from our shop. We honestly didn't put a whole lot of time into them for those reasons. We used good product, just not high end stuff. Not everyone is willing to pay the money for top of the line products.
I'm guessing when you talk about Meguiar's you are referring to the crappy lines. Not like #80,#83, and #16. Because as far as I am concerned those 3 items from Meg's are some of the best products I have ever used. Not so much #16 for me, but #80 and #83 are products I use a lot.
As for TV, spending hundreds of dollars extra on supplies and different brand names isn't something the show will profit from. As said earlier, Meguiar's has the money to promo whatever they want to the fullest extent. Just because one brand promotes themselves on TV, doesn't mean that the brands that have chosen their target audience differently are any better or worse. So if one show is getting paid to use Meguiar's stuff, and let's theoretically say Meguiar's sucks (Just as an example) it won't benefit the show money-wise to bring in a better brand and use their products. Not to mention the people that have "Been there and done that" with that brand compared to other detailing brands are few and far between, as most of the time they're watching the show to learn while the rest of us have the TV turned off and are polishing a car somewhere. As for car shows, I'm sure there are people out there that use very nice stuff. But just because some guy has a nice car and purchased Turtle Wax Ice last weekend, doesn't necessarily qualify his opinion in the matter. Not to mention that just because their car is at a show, it does not mean they actually detail them. I'm sure a lot of us prepare cars for shows so the owner can go in and take home a trophy. Just my .02 :bla2:
what about forums ?..lots of $$ in waxes ..IMHO ...i have yet to see any of the $$$ waxes blow me away anymore then souveran,Zaino and DG....
Your right on that, but it seems i see alot of megs / mothers on TV car shows and a few i have been to, i just don't see any high end stuff been promoted on these shows or at them. But when it comes to forums it's a different story. As we all can see everyone using great products on their rides and their customers car's too.
other then souveran no..i would guess that 1/2 the people who use them have based there purchases on pictures, opinions and forums etc
You know, for most people, once they find something they like and its producing the results they want, why change.
It is somewhat of a hobby of mine when I go to a car show I am always looking and asking what people use on their cars, especially the nicer ones and I have found that the majority of people use one of the OTC type products such as Meguiars or Mothers. Then you will have approximately 25% of the people who are usually the ones that also go online and participate in one of the car forums that have done some research and they will be using Zaino. I can usually pick these cars right out but every once in a while and I will be wrong but it is usually a really really good paint job that would look good with anything on it. You would be surprised by the number of guys that use nothing but a QD on their paint.
You know I've been curious about the same thing as well but I think it has to do with industry and those willing to spend the ca$hola to promote there products. I mean in the US and Canada all you hear is Meg's, Mothers, 3M ect..ect..but in the UK for example it's a different story, you do hear the same names but not as much as a bunch of other names, high end names...well at least that's what I'm told  don't quote me on that. High end products have a purpose, it's interesting becuase after the detail of the Range Rover and going down to the show I couldn't help but compare the Range Rover with the other vehicles the Range Rover stood out but there were other vehicles that looked just as good and when I asked them what products they used I was thrilled when they told me what they used on the vehicles. I agree though, it's all about prep work and like agentf1 said a good paint job makes a big difference as well, you can polish all you want if the paint job is not perfect well then it would be difficult to reach that flawless detail that we all aim for, don't get me wrong it will still look great but just wouldn't look perfect. As for high end wax, I agree pictures don't do them justice. I mean a picture just wont show you the glow of a vehicle, the worm, deep glow that can only be seen when you stand beside the vehicle or when you gently feel the surface of a vehicle...I mean there is more to it then just pictures...well at least I think so. But that's just my opinion eace:
