Im in the market for another coating as i have tired out optimum gloss, although it gives a good shine and hydrophobic action, i think it lacks in areas of hardness and protection against swirls. I was just scrolling through the dd website and came across the gyeon mohs. I am hoping if anyone or Phil can give a more detailed review on the product and its stated hardness (protection against swirls, compared to other coating such as optimum gloss).

    Thanks,

These mainstream coatings that are available to consumers offer very similar resistance to swirls and marring, which is very little. I heard modesta glass coating will provide some added protection but it comes at a really high cost.

  3. What about Ceramic Pro? What do you guys think m of that one? Sorry OP not trying thread jack

ceramic pro is not available in retail, only for professional detailers that are authorized by them. This is why i wanted to know how Gyeon goes up against the rest, since it describes itself to be the hardest product in the everyday coating market.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the interest in Gyeon Quartz! MOHS (and Prime for that matter), when applied correctly, do display the 9H hardness results that we often hear about in the marketing of coatings as of late. It is not something that Gyeon Quartz as a brand leans on heavily as far as product benefits. The coating absolutely increases surface "hardness" or "scratch resistance" and does this very well, but it has to be thought of respectively and with common sense. There are both vertical and horizontal hardness measures to consider when thinking of coatings. The horizontal hardness of a surface is measured when an object is moved across the surface in a left to right motion. Yes the coating increases the hardness in this sense, but common sense also tells us that if a rock or debris is trapped in our wash mitt, or a rock or debris strikes the surface during driving, with enough force the surface can be scratched. The 9H marker in terms of scratch resistance can be misleading because it implies that it is a measurement based on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness where Diamond achieves a 10. The 9H reading we all hear about is based on the Pencil Hardness Test. Much more applicable in terms of every day use of your vehicle is the vertical hardness. How well does the coating protect against UV rays and how resistant is the coating to chemicals. This is where Gyeon Quartz MOHS performs very very well and the discussion of it's hardness comes in to play. MOHS is a very user friendly coating that delivers tons of gloss and long term protection. You will be pleased!! Please take some time to check out the many Gyeon Quartz Facebook pages from across the globe and you'll see tons of awesome projects.

Thanks for the information on the product. Does Gyeon Mohs require heat lamp to fully cure in order to achieve the hardness or it can be achieved without it? Since not many weekend warriors have the access to a ir heater or heat lamp.

MOHS does not require IR Lamps to achieve those results. We require our Certified Detailer Network to use IR when installing MOHS+ and DuraBead because they are 2 part systems, but MOHS itself rocks without it. Try installing 3 Layers of MOHS (all performance numbers are based on 2 layers)...with a minimum 1 hour in between each layer....let it cure over night safely in the garage....then hit it with the Cure that will come in the kit the next day and you will be very very pleased. I'd love to see some pictures when done! And if I can help at all during application please give me a shout 720-767-4734.

I assume it's the same story with rim?

What about using Booster with Mohs? Any special steps?

Yes same story with Q2RIM...IR is great but can be installed without.

Booster with MOHS (or Prime) is AWESOME! Booster is designed to interact with the outermost layer of MOHS to create a more hydrophobic and highly beading surface. It has a different base so it will go on much differently than MOHS. Same pattern and same 3-4 drops of product on the applicator per section. Booster will flash out almost immediately so don't try to apply so much that you see yourself leaving a trail during application, as you will likely run out before you get around the car. I use a faster hand motion when applying Booster. You aren't worried about leveling as much as you are when installing MOHS. You will feel the surface get extremely slick as you move the applicator block over it. This is the best way to know you have coverage. You want to wait a minimum of 4 hours after your last coat of MOHS before application. Enjoy!! I'd love to see some pictures!

I bought a MOHS kit from Phil. Polished and coated my wife's 2016 Dodge Journey CR... It has been about 4 months now... I am a tad upset because her coating seems to be much better than mine... I coated my baby with Dr. beasleys nano resin... The Gyeon MOHS seems to be a great coating... Her car is a granite color and never looks dirty. I don't wash her car as often as I wash my car. Once every 2 weeks for hers and once a week for mine. Her car seems to stay cleaner longer and the hydrophobic properties do seem about the same but hers is different... Can't quite put my finger in n it but it is better... Nothing extra is needed except Cure... Which you can use after a wash while the car is wet... Just bought some foam also... Gyeon is one of my go to products...
