    Hey guys,

Some of you know I'm a big 3M person, and it's one of the only products I use. How ever, being away from my shop on vacation, I ended up in a situation where I'm detailing cars, and buying products. I already had found M105/205 here locally, and couldn't source Perfect-It polish in stock. I had some megs pads with me, so I go the first car done using what I had. How ever, I was given some amazon gift cards, and purchased the Orange, White, Grey, and Red Chemical Guys 5.5" Hexlogic pads. My thought was to use 105 with the orange, and then 205 with the white and grey, and Griots Show Car Wax as my LSP on the red pad. Is there anything anyone would change about the process?

Your product/pad selection should work out fine. Will you use rotary or d/a for correction?

I find the hex logic pads to be extremely firm, and honestly am not a huge fan of them. I always have to give them a good spray with some Pinnacle pad conditioner and massage them for a while to soften them up. Also clean them and keep them damp panel to panel.
That being said, the orange should work well for cutting. Depending on the softness of the paint, you'll need to experiment with the grey (probably Green?) and white pads to figure out which will finish off the best. And finally the red for wax, shouldn't be an issue.

    Good luck

it should work depending on how crazy you are going on the cars. just make sure you let the person the limitations.

I've never used this system, so learning the limitations will be something I'll have to deal with. I plan to use a meguiars DA with this combo. I do have a rotary with me on this trip I can use as well if I need more a more agressive cut.

Have you used the 3M Performance Finish synthetic wax? I've never seen it discussed, but it gets great reviews on Amazon.

It should work fine. I have never used 3M. I'm guessing it's a DAT. The Meg's twins are SMAT. So you have a little learning curve to make up. Now I hate 105 it cuts great but not worth the trouble. I use M101 and love it. It cuts better finishes way better then 105 and if you learn it well little to ZERO dusting.
Right now my stash is M101, FG400, HD Polish, 4000 gonna be adding Adapt and 2500. Then my bases are covered.

DAT - Diminishing abrasive. The abrasives start out larger then diminish down in size over the course of the buffing cycle.
SMAT - Non-diminishing abrasives. Small tiny abrasives. They do not diminish. The amount of cut is determined by the concentration of the abrasives in the compound/polish.

They are both made of aluminum oxide except M105 is the finest version which is crystal. They also make DAT abrasives in different sizes and shapes but they breakdown into crystal. M105 just has a lot more crystal in it.
