Anybody have any tips on how to fix a severely neglected carbon fiber hood? I spent 3 hours working on a hood for a guy that I wound up not charging because after I was done it hazed back over like nothing even happened. It looked beautiful for about 10 minutes.

If it's got a clearcoat, you should be able to buff it out as any other paint; if not, I assume there has to be a carbon fiber polishing compound you could try.

Did you use a polisher? What kind of pads and product? My carbon fiber hood I had on my integra had some pretty tough clearcoat on it, maybe you didn't go aggressive enough with it.

I used a MF cutting pad and FG400. It looked absolutely amazing, so I went straight to the LSP and protected it. Literally 10 minutes later it hazed into a chalky white filth.

Do you have any pictures? Maybe the clearcoat on the hood is too far damaged to fix?

I do. I'll have to download them from my phone later and post them. When I say the hood looked fantastic, I really mean it. I was so proud of myself and the owner about lost it when he saw it. Then we both watched as it just hazed back over. I was so embarrassed I didn't even charge him.

Cut it with 2000, buff it with compound, hit it with swirlmark remover and then seal it. The NSX in my avatar sat in the hot Florida sun ever day when the guy would pull it out of his garage, but it was never waxed. Managed to get it looking brand new again, against the thoughts of both my bosses who thought it needed a new hood and several other detailers.
