Any of you guys ever put a coating on matte paint? The local Mercedes dealer wants to talk to me about a few new c65 in matte finish. Any info would be great! Thanks
You can not seal it but there are waxes made for Matte finishes and Matte finishes are a pain to take care of. Is this factory paint on the cars or after market paint?
You can coat matte paint finishes with CQuartz or EXO if you're asking about the nano coatings. There's a company called Dr. Beasley's that make a bunch of matte paint specific products.
It will change the color of the paint by making it shine and defeats the whole purpose of a matte finish. So I won't use ether product on the paint.
From what I have heard, Nano-coatings like OC will alter the appearance slightly, from a matte to more of a satin. It shouldn't make it shiny or anything, but WILL change the appearance. It is a trade off, if you need it to remain as matte as possible, do not apply, if you are okay with satin instead of matte, and would like the protection, try it out on a test spot and see what your results are.
Swissvax Opaque is specifically made for matte paints or films. We use it all the time with fantastic results.
It won't make the paint shiny, but it will darken it some. I personally don't see the point of matte finishes anyways. I tell people not to buy cars with matte finishes. I'd rather get the protection of CQuartz or EXO and not have to touch the surface anymore than just washing. Once you mar the matte paint you're screwed.
I have applied Opti-Coat Pro to a matte black Harley as well as some matte striped cars. It darkens the paint a VERY small amount and the owner didn't even notice it. It does not add gloss or make it shiny!
Here is a job i did a while ago, on a mini cooper s, with matte black wrapping. The text is in Norwegian, but there are some pic's, so you get an idea of how it works. Mini Cooper S Swissvax Opaque edition By TCS - Show and shine - Detailers Club Norway
Matte rapping and matte paint are too totally different things. All these coating will change the apparence of the look of the matte finish. You won't know for how much till you do a test spot.
Take a look at the nanolex matte products. They appear to not add any shine at all. MATTE Line - Products in Development - Showcase - Page 2 - Detailing World
I have also recently done the same prosedure on the innside of the hood and engine cover on a Lamborghini miura, that is paited matte black, and the result was the same at with the vinyl wrap. Lamborghini Miura detailed by TCS - Show and shine - Detailers Club Norway But what do you mean by matte paint, are you referring to colors like the BMW frozen paint?
Agreed. I have applied both CQ and OC to Matte Paint and Matte Vinyl with the same results. These two coatings add the slightest sheen to it that the customer will likely not detect. This was my experience at least... Who knows, Tommy and I could be completely wrong! :giggle:
I recently vinyl wrapped a GTR in Matte White. The pic below shows the way the light reflects off of it. Still Matte to me! (Post CQ application)
Ok everyone keeps talking about vinyl rap he is talking about paint too completely different things. True matt paint job has no shine at all and most people that get matt finish paint jobs don't want anything to add shine to the paint job.
I'll take pics of the matte black Harley I applied Opti-Coat Pro to when I get to the shop tonight. Here it is brand new and uncoated for reference.
Here is the bike coated with OCP. Now I do suggest testing it in an inconspicuous area first, as there is no polishing this off, but I have yet to see it add gloss. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Beautiful! I too have coated Matte Black Paint specifically, no gloss whatsoever. Great job Rasky! Btw... Anyone having issues with their "enter" key on this site? LOL. Don't know if it's just me but for some reason it won't allow me to hit enter and skip down a couple lines! Strange...
That's been my experience too. It will darken the color but not make it any shinier. Some colors darken more than others so a test spot to make sure you like result is wise.
