Alright call me dumb, but I work a toyota dealership and none of our cars ever come out of there like that. Yes they have general swirls in them but wtf do people do to get halograms and crap like that? Are they high speeding every car and no one knows how to do it?

Maybe I'm just one of hte lucky ones who was actually trained and knows how to use a rotary (I only use it at work if i have to) but I rarely ever see holograms like that unless its from other dealers.

Damn, I actually just applied for a detailer position at the Tesla Dealership near me. I promise I won't let that happen.

Thats nasty. I just trained the detailer at the Tesla dealer here in town and I set him up with all his products including his brand new Porter Cable! No rotaries at that service centre.

DISO - dealer installed swirl option. Its like the purposly doing that, so they can sell you their glaze/wax job.

I see newer cars like that driving around all day in NY. I really think that these guys are blind. I could never accept that. My guess is they glaze the crap out of the paint, and then then is washes out later they blame the owner or local car wash for damaging the paint. I would bet the car would have looked far superior had it not been touched by the dealer.

that is absolutely disgusting. Id be horrified if i washed my car and found that kind of damage. The amount of money these cars are going for, and to put that kind of damage on them is just boggling.

Using the top edge of the pad at high speed, digging into the paint will do just that.

And its not all the DCWRD's fault either - its the Cheap-A$$ Dealers that barely pay these poor Clowns to do this work and expect them to slam a zillion cars out a month !!!
The "mentality" (?) of Dealers has unfortunately always been to do this kind of crap and expect it to be good for the buying public... Talk about twisted thinking...

If only they would just learn how to use the tool correctly... It would be amazingly fast and perfect...

my friend is the "detailer" at the local VW dealer, he gets $12.00 an hour and is just backed up from 8am-7pm when they close. But I have never seen anything like that come out of there, in fact they hardly ever use a polisher unless its absolute necessary. I even asked/mentioned that the cars that come out of there on average look pretty good, his response is "we dont use a rotary" 99% of new cars they get don't require that, and its mostly their dealer prep is decon, heavy wax and glaze. No need to use a machine on it. Just boggles my mind why would they even use a machine period. Most damage I see is just from their wash techniques and that is usually due to the outsourced guys who come in 4 times a week and just pressure wash the dust off of them.

When I picked up my CC a few weeks ago, they had re sprayed the bumper, and the shop they used polished it correctly. I guess some people still take pride in their work.

NOW I do see that sort of work from people who hire craigslist detaliers or a coupon detail at a high volume car wash. They go in paying for the $99.00 cut and polish special and they get those results.

    Just disturbing

That was my thought, it can't possibly be better now than before so why spend the time making it worse. Only thing I can think of is the bosses have it hardwired that they have to go over the cars with a polisher because no matter what that makes it better.

I'd think a higher end shopper would know better but I've mentioned before how 2 guys I worked with would have their cars 'detailed' by some place for $60 and their cars would come back looking like that. One day I finally mentioned that maybe they should find a place that doesn't leave that in the paint and the one guys response was "that's how you know they polished it"

That's what I meant by my other post. I'm a prep guy at a toyota dealership. (i dont call us detailers) and i might drag the rotary out once a month. The last I used it on was a Tacoma that had a 3 inch scratch near the door handle. It was DX (dealer exchanged) from another dealer and had that mark on it. The customer wanted it to be gone, so I hit it as best as i could. No holograms or anything left behind. But I've seen some of the other kids that have come in and quit a month later try to use that thing and it just scares me.

Most places will just hire anyone. We had someone come in and they were about to wax a car and they were like "i've always heard the harder you press down when waxing the better". I stopped helping the new hires months ago so I just let it eat. lol
